A sliver of a silver lining at last after months of semi-lockdown, it was reported yesterday (May 29) that Beijing will finally allow the reopening of several types of venues and public space under strict measures. The decision came after officials announced that the current outbreak is 'effectively under control' in the city with cases outside of quarantine now on the wane in the daily press briefing.

Although the killjoy ban on dine-in services still remains in place, a little less restrictions on movement is a welcome sign. Read on below for the places you can now visit and access in the city (negative PCR test result within 48 hours mandatory, of course)

Tourist attractions

Scenic attractions like public parks can now reopen at 50 percent capacity, although picnic and mass gatherings are likely to be prohibited. Scenic spots like Chaoyang Park, Olympic Park, Jingshan Park, Temple of Heaven, Summer Palace, Beihai Park, Fragrant Hill, Happy Valley and more have all announced reopening on their official WeChat account. To enter, reservations must be made online 24 hours in advance.

Leisure centres

Indoor leisure and sports centres, including library, museums, cinemas, galleries, and gyms (with the exception of underground venues), in districts where no cases are reported in seven consecutive days outside of quarantine, can now resume operation at 50 percent capacity.
