La Social‘s Christian talks covid hiatus, summer menu and more

TimeOutBeijing 2023-09-22

Founder story is an interview series that attempts to offer a snapshot into how Beijing entrepeneurs, movers, shakers and tastemakers navigate the new norm in another rollercoaster of a year.

The city's nightlife venues have largely been the first to close and the last to open during covid. For this edition of founder story, we chatted to the general manager at La Social, Christian Molina about the extra long hiatus this year, and what to expect from the South American themed bar next.

Q: Sum up the first half of 2022 in three words

A: Wild, bumpy ride

Q: Has La Social dealt with the pandemic differently this year comparing to last year?

A: Last year we had some restrictions but we closed for only two weeks. This week we’ve already closed for 45 days so it is more difficult for us. Anyways we’re still trying to keep good spirits.

Q: What do you do when you need to let off some steam and going out isn’t an option?

A: I really like listening and spinning music.

Q: What do you drink on your night off?

A: Aguardiente. It is a Colombian drink. It is a strong shot. You can drink two or three but more than that it’s too much.

Q: Any new drinks planned for summer at La Social?

A: We have three new cocktails including El Parata, a refreshing cocktail with dark rum and campari, as well as lychee temptation, a cocktail with lychee juice, peddlers gin. Also we have a new mango-flavoured mojito for our mojito Wednesday.

Q: What about other special plans for the second half of the year?

A: We’re planning our sixth anniversary and organising a pretty big event for that night. Also we're organising the second edition of mojito cup which is a football tournament with the celebration here. And then more and more collaborations with different brands to come.
