Keep your Saturday open because it's so loaded with stuff to do. The Pearl is throwing a French karaoke night (we imagine Frère Jacques on a 3-hour loop), Comedian Steve Hofstetter being heckled to death at Cages, newly reopened Amber Lounge annoying the neighbors again with a Bass Music Party and sensory overload at Inferno with a movie and metal bands at the first ever Shanghorrorfest.


British Invasion at The Pearl feat. The Japan Beatles

The Pearl presents a night called the British Invasion featuring the Japan Beatles, who will take the stage for a groovy Fab four tour-de-force from the swinging 60’s. Dress in your best: Sling your cool hipster threads, Blue Velvet Nehru Jackets and Felicity Shagwell Micro Micro Minny's. You get the idea.

Yuyintang welcomes indie soul/pop outfit Manju Pocket from Seoul, Korea in an eclectic night of rock in all forms! Their music merges soul and pop influences with the diverse features from blues, Korean trot music and more. Support from local bands Galēən, Limousine and Dahlia Rosea. RMB40.


VONDA7 at Lola 

Where: Lola, 46 Yueyang Lu (near Dongping Lu)

Lola Club Shanghai proudly presents VONDA7, a rising queen of Berlin techno. She first earned her stripes interviewing DJs and producers before becoming one herself. A purveyor of hypnotic grooves, her language of synthesized melodies and heavy basslines washes over audiences like a slick musical baptism. Support from residents Jobo and Javi Kalero. Italian Dance Wave Asia present Fabrizio Mammarella 

Where: Dada, 115 Xingfu Lu (near Fahuazhen Lu)

From the revolutionary dancefloors of Giorgio Moroder to the nu-disco revival of the 2010s, Fabrizio Mammarella weaves the sounds of the last decades into his personal take on a new Italian sound. He and his labelmates on Slow Motion run a number of country-hopping parties spinning anything from obscure house and cosmic funk—all rooted in that familiar disco-inspired sound. Italian Dance Wave’s Altieri to open. Free.


Riddim 'N' Vibe at C's 

Where: C's, 685 Dingxi Lu (near Fahuazhen Lu)

Riddim 'N' Vibe touches down at C's for a night of drum & bass music from across the spectrum. Join DJ's Rabbit (CN), Resinate (UK) and Shohei (JP) at the at the booth alongside the night's host, Shanghai's own Rasta MC Jado.


French Karaoke Night and Party at The Pearl 

Where: The Pearl, 471 Zhapu Road (near Wujin Road)

Celebrate French culture and music with French karaoke night, singing to a humongous 7m screen. Enjoy a fine selection of classic French tunes, from the 60s up to today. Grab the microphone and sing or just dance on famous rhythms of Claude Francois, Jean-Jacques Goldman, Celine Dion, Joe Dassin, Gilbert Montagné and many others. Entry is free.


SCC 2nd Anniversary: Steve Hofstetter Free Comedy Show 

Where: Cages Bar and Sport > Jiangning Lu, 3/F Jing'an Sports Centre, 428 Jiangning Lu (near Wuding Lu)

To celebrate their 2 year anniversary, Shanghai Comedy Club is having a free event featuring Steve Hofstetter, one of America's biggest touring comics. A YouTube sensation with more than 220,000 subscribers and over 65 million views, Hofstetter is known as the destroyer of hecklers and spinner of hilarious yarns and unapologetic jokes. Scan the Shanghai Comedy's QR code and get in touch with your name and number of requested seats, then get in early on 8:30pm Saturday night so you manage so snag the best seats.


Bass Music Party at Amber 

Where: Amber Lounge, 10F, 698 Nanjing Xi Lu (near Qinghai Lu)

A night of booming bass at the new incarnation of Amber Lounge on Nanjing Xi Lu (next to Windows Garage). A respectable DJ lineup of Anderson K., Asuka and Ryoji Takahashi will be throwing down "with musical elements like hip-hop, trap, hard trap and brostep." RMB100 entry includes one drink.


Timmy Trumpet At MYST

Timothy Jude smith aka Timmy Trumpet is an Australian house DJ and producer who made his name in Ibiza, playing live trumpet solos over electronic dance music tracks during DJs shows. Having played alongside big names like Armin Van Buuren, Dizzee Rascal and Fatboy Slim, Timmy is internationally known for adding jazz elements to global dance music.


Shanghorrorfest at Inferno

From the dudes who brought you SHANGHELLFEST 2016, comes the second incarnation of a night of hell-raising fury. The first movie screening concert combo, SHANGHORRORFEST will be screening Roman Polanski’s 1968 psychological horror classic, Rosemary’s Baby at 8pm. After, four of Shanghai’s heaviest metal bands will be hitting the stage: Hitobashira, Thy Blood, Crying Scarecrow and The Machinery of Other Skeletons. Some prize giveaways will also take place on the night courtesy of Shanghai Tattoo.


DESPERATE FIGHT! Metalcore Night

Yuyintang presents Desperate Fight!, a night of five metalcore bands. Lineup is 牢鋁 (Shanghai), Chaos Mind (Shanghai), AK-47 (Beijing), Must Be Red (Shanghai), and Forget and Forgive (Shanghai).


Only Real at Yuyintang

Only Real, otherwise known as Niall Galvin, is a 25-year-old from West London who mixes kitchen-sink rapping with spun-out guitar and synths to make upbeat and off-kilter pop music. Like the musical lovechild of Brian Wilson and Outkast’s Andre 3000, Galvin lays rapped verses over jangling, garage-y guitars and sparse beats. Tickets RMB100 pre-sale, RMB120 at the door.
