对民间文化的汲取与探求，一直贯穿于陈量的艺术创作中。

本次展览的主题"白蛇盗草"，缘起于一首陕西宝鸡陇州县的传统民间小调，陕西省非物质文化遗产保护项目——陇州小调。自古以来，西部游牧民族与中原汉族在此交汇，造就了陇州独特的融合性人文、方言及艺术风格。而宝鸡正是陈量的家乡。

"白蛇盗草"的故事，即被熟知的«白蛇传»中白蛇盗仙草救许仙的情节。感知民间小调的能量，重拾白蛇报恩的情节，引发了陈量对民间世界观中质朴善良一面的思考与感叹，进而创作出一系列与以往探索方向有所不同的作品。

本次展览着重展出陈量的近作，由此可探见艺术家在创作中的细微变化——在这些作品中，既可以看见陈量作品中一贯的力量感与感染力，又可以看出他在个人艺术性上的进一步探索。从早期的情绪化、符号化书写发展至今，伴随着对民间文化更为深入的研究、对材料的兴趣与深入探索，陈量对书写的探索进入了一个更为自发和自信的阶段。在"白蛇盗草"系列的创作中，陈量既延续和发展了先前的文字创作元素，又对其进行了更深一步的发展，民间艺术的精神内核得以更为游刃有余的挥洒于纸间，也给观众留下更深的思考空间。

除近期作品外，本次展览也将展出陈量的研究材料及部分过往创作精选，通过本次展览，观众可以多维度的感受和了解陈量的创作，感知民间文化影响下艺术创作的魅力。

The absorption and exploration of traditional Chinese folk culture has been implementing through the artistic creation of Chen Liang.

The theme of the exhibition, 'White Snake Stealing Grass', is originated from a traditional folk ditty in Longzhou County, Baoji, Shaanxi province, which is included in Shaanxi Province Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Projects. Since ancient times, the Western nomads and the Han nationality gathered in here, creating the unique fusion of culture, dialect and art style in Longzhou County, which is a part of Baoji, the hometown of Chen Liang.

The story of the 'White Snake Stealing Grass' is known as the story of the white Snake saving the life of Xu Xian by stealing the celestial grass from the widely circulated folk story 'The Tale of White Snake'. Sensing the energy of folk tunes and rediscovering the plot of white snake returning the favor, triggered Chen Liang started to think about the unadorned and kindness of folk worldview, hence created a series of works that are not entirely alike his previous exploration direction.

Focusing on the recent works of Chen Liang, this exhibition provides a glimpse of the subtle changes in the artist's work, which combines the intense sense of power and emotional influence of his work with further exploration of his practices. From the early development of emotional and symbolic writing, his recent writing works has entered a more spontaneous and confident stage along with his further research on folk culture and the usage of medium. When creating the 'White Snake Stealing Grass' series, Chen Liang not only continues and develops his previous symbolic writing elements, but further develops them by absorbing the fundamental spiritual core from folk culture，leaves the audience with deeper space for thinking.

In addition to his recent works, this exhibition will also display his research materials, the inspirational objects and selected works in the past, which aims to offer the audience with more dimensions to understand Chen Liang and to perceive the charm of artistic creation under the influence of traditional Chinese folk culture.

陈量 CHEN LIANG

陈量 ‹b.1987› 出生于陕西陈仓，现生活工作于杭州。幼时跟随村里画庙师傅学习书法和神像绘制，成年后在陕西科技大学学习材料科学与工程专业，毕业后曾做过玻璃厂技术员，香港«书谱»杂志编辑和记者，后于中央美术学院实验艺术学院就读，并获硕士学位。

自2012年成为职业艺术家以来，他的创作和研究基于对地方知识的田野考察、古代仪式、文字起源和人类书写的传统，并始终朝着挖掘被隐藏的历史和书写普遍性的状态前进。

由于受到民间仪式、神秘主义和长青哲学的启发，常使他思考如何将零碎、混杂的民间思想以书写的方式重建。这使其工作包括以图像学和文献收集、出版、田野纪录片、剧场和书法等各种方式展开，构建了其复杂的诗意视野。

他还对宗教人类学研究、民间亚文化、艺术乡建、以及地方传说和信仰充满热情，并于2020年创立仪式民众剧团‹CPT›。他的工作执着于挖掘、重新发现和解释呈现那些曾经迷失、未闻和被掩埋的痕迹和声音。

Chen Liang ‹b.1987› was born in Chencang, Shaanxi province, and now lives and works in Hangzhou. When he was young, he learned calligraphy and deity painting from the master of the village temple. When he grew up, he majored in material science and engineering in Shaanxi University of Science and Technology. After graduation, he worked as a glass factory technician as well as the editor and reporter of the Hong Kong magazine 'The Book Spectrum'. Since becoming a professional artist in 2012, his creations and research are based on the fieldwork of local knowledge, ancient rituals, the origins of writing and the traditions of human writing. His goals continue towards unearthing the hidden history and universality of writing. Inspired by folk rituals, mysticism and the philosophy of immortality, he often think about how to reconstruct the fragmented and mixed folk ideas in writing，leading his works conclude various poetic forms including pictorial and documentary collection, publishment, field documentary, theatre and calligraphy. He is also passionate about the study of religious anthropology, folk subcultures, artistic rural architecture, local legends and beliefs, and founded the Ritual People Theatre ‹CPT› in 2020. His works are dedicated to excavating, rediscovering and interpreting the traces and sounds that were once lost, unheard and buried.
