If you are a yoga beginner, here is a quick guide to the different yoga styles that makes selecting a yoga school easier:
Aerial – yoga supported by a soft hammock, to explore, refine, and advance traditional postures, both in the air and on the ground
Ashtanga - a rigorous style of yoga that follows a specific sequence of postures which links every movement to a breath
Flow – fast paces sequence of poses designed for more of a fitness approach
Kundalini - incorporates movement, breathing techniques, meditation, and chanting to build physical vitality and increase consciousness.
Hatha - a gentle introduction to the most basic yoga postures
Hot Yoga - a style of yoga performed in hot and humid conditions to encourage deeper stretching and improve blood circulation.
Meditation – a non-physical class designed to develop concentration, clarity and emotional positivity
Mysore - refers to classes taught as they are in Mysore, India, where Ashtanga’s tradition continues to be passed on.
Pranayama - Pranayama are breathing exercises which clear the physical and emotional blockages in our body to free the breath and flow of life energy.
Prenatal - yoga poses designed to be safe for pregnant women.
Rocket - a dynamic and uplifting yoga sequence consisting of modified poses from traditional Ashtanga.
Vinyasa - fluid, movement-intensive practice, transitioning from pose to pose, where no two classes are the same.
Wall Rope – traditional postures practiced with aid of ropes attached to a wall.
Yin - a slow-paced style of yoga with postures which are held for longer periods of time ranging for 1 minute to as much as 10 minutes.
Yogalates – a fitness routine that combines Pilates exercises with the postures and breathing techniques of yoga.
