Best Places In the City To Buy, Eat and Order Cheese
It may stink sometimes, but gosh we love it. Cheese might just be for foreigners what stinky tofu is for local Chinese. Even if getting great cheese seems complicated here, nothing is impossible for a driven foodie. In stores, online or directly on a platter, there are nooks and crannies with excellent cheese here. These are some of the best spots to get it.
WHERE TO BUY CHEESE
La Parisienne

Hidden paradise in Pudong, La Parisienne is a traditional, French owned brasserie where you can find bakeries, pastries but also cheese and imported cured meat. Traditional Parisian style, you should go if you want to escape from Shanghai’s atmosphere for few hours. As they are nearby the Pudong ferry station it can be the perfect place for an afternoon tea after you introduced The Bund to your traveling relatives.
Avocado Lady
Address: 274 Wulumuqi Lu

The Avocado Lady is becoming a legend in Shanghai and they are plenty of reasons why. Simply put, this humble shop has everything for imported palates, at pretty unbeatable prices. Whatever you need, the avocado lady likelyhas it. The place may not be super photogenic, the products are placed like a bomb went off in the shop. However, it’s difficult to avoid this option when you want to get cheese in Shanghai. Good prices and many choices, what is there to complain about?

La Cabane
Address: 1 Taojiang Lu, near Dongping Lu
Phone: 021-33562388
Who’s down for a Raclette? This gargantuan, traditional Savoyard dish consists of melting pieces of cheese before globbing it on potatoes, cold cuts and some other vegetables. French like to eat it when days become darker and colder, which in Shanghai is… almost always. What better consolation is there than chewy cheeses. The name Raclette comes from the kind of cheese used, a semi-hard cow's milk type. You need to place it in small pans and then insert it under a warm electric table-top grill. Serve it when it reaches the perfect consistency, slightly granulated. For RMB 188 you can obtain a total satisfactory load of Raclette cheese added with gherkins, pickled and dried meats, such as ham, plus as much potatoes and saladas you want. You can be hungry as a bear and feel appeased after.
