Yan'an Underpass Bus Trials Underway, Opens Feb 1

Bus 71, also referred to as the ‘medium-capacity traffic project' has begun trial operation in Shanghai. Here’s what you should know about it:

The buses have their own special route, which can only be used by them, and even has its own separate set of traffic signals. Trial runs began yesterday, but will be officially open the public starting on February 1st and costs RMB 2 per ride.

The route is 17.5-kilometers , and runs under Yan’an Elevated road.
The buses will travel at 18 kilometers per hour, which is 30-50 percent faster than the average of traditional shanghai buses.
The first bus will leave Shenkun Road at 4:30am and the last at 10:30pm. The opposite end of the route is near the Bund, which will begin at 5:30am and go until 11:30pm.

There are 11 bus stops currently, but there will be 25 in total when the project is completed. All of the stops will be within 500 meters of Metro stations.

There are a total of 40 buses running the route, they are all special, 18-meter long electric buses.
