F&B News Bites: Salotto G, Urban Soup & More

2017-05-17 ShanghaiWOWeng

The only thing more active than Shanghai itself might be the F&B scene here. Openings, closings, rumors, venue changes, it really never stops (except for CNY). Here’s some crispy news from our inside sources, enjoy!

CLOSING

Heart breaking news

SALOTTO G

Sad, sad, sad news: Salotto G is officially shut down. They closed for three weeks to undergo “renovations,” a phrase that’s right up there with “we’re taking the dog to the farm”. The investor decided to focus on other business, which means no more Mr G Thursday nights. Damn.

DOGTOWN

Que the sad trumpet noise, May 27 will be the last day of Dog Town. The landlord decided NOT to renew the lease, something that occasionally happens when the neighborhood complains about you too much. We doubt their absence will quiet the street down that much with The Rooster still rocking hard nearby. RIP to the D Town.

URBAN SOUP

You might not have even known about this USK location, if so carry on. It closed a few weeks ago. What will be replacing it you ask? Well…

OPENING

Wuding Lu is on fire

QG

Remember Le Petit Normand? Cool, cozy French restaurant on Taian Lu? Well the owner took over the spot of Urban soup (yes the one we just mentioned) and is preparing a new restaurant. The design will be a mix of simple modern and French vintage. The name means “the place we always go to hang out” or Quartier General in French slang. The concept is old-fashioned, but genuine and warm French food. Expect a soft opening next month. Since the buildings all around are packed with French people we have a funny feeling this one might turn into a new hot spot.

SOMETHING UDER CABRA

Mylk closed long time ago and now something interesting is happening in their old spot. We don’t know much about it, but we’re predicting something exciting….

LE COMPTOIR DE PIERRE GAGNAIRE

Mr. Pierre Gagnaire, an illustrious culinary icon, announced his debut in Mainland China with Le Comptoir de Pierre Gagnaire. Lauded as the “Best Chef in the World 2015” by his industry peers, Mr. Gagnaire celebrated 50 years of creativity and success in the kitchen this year. His atlas spans 12 restaurants globally with a total of 13 Michelin stars among them.  “The idea behind le Comptoir de Pierre Gagnaire is an echo to the 1930s. It sends my message of warmth, quality and modesty as a tribute to the era. The place has to be joyful, comfortable and easily accessible. It is out of the question that it becomes a closed and exclusive place!”  It is scheduled to open in July 2017 but you can already book your table.

RAFFLES PLAZA

Nearby Zhongshangong Yuan (at the left of the subway station actually) a huge Mall just open its door. Inside there are many, many F&B openings worth checking out.

Long, long list of places where to eat

So what are some highlights there currently:

The Isles, fish and chips master, Hungry Lung's Kitchen and Ocean Grounds are part of it. All packed together on the first floor, and all with terraces boasting great views. HLK and The Isles are already up and running, while Ocean Grounds will be soon. We took the liberty to take a picture of their second floor, nice view!
