Underwater Trains Coming?
Chinese scientists have recently floated the idea of an underwater vacuum tube train that would drastically reduce travel times.
The vacuum tube train could theoretically be built using magnetic levitation inside vacuum tubes or tunnels. Scientists estimate such a train could hit a speed of 2,000 kilometers per hour, all with relatively little power, no noise pollution and no influence whatsoever from bad weather.

A preliminary research survey was done by The China Railway Tunnel Survey & Design Institute suggesting the possibility of constructing a 10-kilometer underwater vacuum tunnel in Zhoushan, Zhejiang province. If built, it would be the world's first underwater vacuum tunnel for trains, and cut travel time between Fujian and Taipei (180 kilometers apart) to a stunning 13 minutes.
