Five Chinese Beaches to Hit This Summer

2017-05-28 ShanghaiWOWeng

Summer has officially arrived my friends. Time to start preparing for weekend and holiday trips to get your chicken legs into some water. Now don’t get me wrong, Shanghai is great. Really great. However, in terms of finding cool spots to take a dip, you can do better. After all China is huge, and you might as well take advantage of your time here and see all you can. Take advantage of this and visit these places to go skinning dip.

NO.1&2 BATHING BEACH (QINGDAO, SHANDONG PROVINCE)

STONE MAN BATHING BEACH

Qingdao Beaches were so nice we couldn’t choose just one, so here are three. No. 1 Bathing Beach is a good way to start your day but might get a little crowded. Luckily, No. 2 Bathing Beach is just a hop, skip, and a jump away. Finally, you can end your evening at the Stone Man Bathing Beach in the shadow of Mount Lao. Qingdao is a prime-time swimming destination for tourists not unlike yourself. With a gigantic bay area with beaches stretching for miles, there’s little reason not to mark Qingdao as your first summer vacation spot. If this isn’t enough to entice you, remember that Shandong girls are reportedly some of the most beautiful in all of China.

BEIDAIHE BEACH

QINHUANGDAO, HEBEI PROVINCE

Beidaihe is another famous destination for summer time indulgencies. This area can tend to get crowded, but if you’re adventurous enough to go further down the beach and away from the city, you’ll be sure to find some solitude and the opportunity to go skinny dipping.  Beidaihe is a district in the city of Qinhuangdao, Hebei Province, and has over 20km of coastline for your swimming/viewing pleasure.

HUANGCUO BEACH

XIAMEN, FUJIAN PROVINCE

You’ll hear people say that Xiamen, Fujian Province, is relatively dirty and a terrible place for swimming and beach adventures. Well they will be right if they go to the classic Gulangyu Island beaches. Full of rubbish and muddy water, this area is more for sight-seeing than anything. However, if you want to really experience Xiamen and a beautiful beach, go check out Huangcuo Beach. As one of the more “underdeveloped” beaches in Xiamen, it receives little tourist attention, with clear and clean water and soft & silky sand. What are you waiting for?

ZHUHAI BEACH

ZHUHAI, GUANGDONG PROVINCE

Zhuhai, the city of lovers, or the city of one thousand islands, is famous for its beautiful and natural scenery, as well as its popular bathing/swimming beaches. Known as the gateway to Macau, Zhuhai is a common destination for Hong Kongers who want to pay mainland prices for all of their summer time indulgencies. On a slightly negative note, Zhuhai beach is not nearly as developed as its popularity would suggest, lacking many food and drink options. Best to prepare those ahead of time and take them with you to the beach.

JINSHAN BEACH

SHANGHAI, CHINA

It’d be rude to not suggest at least one Shanghai beach for those with no vacation time this summer. Tucked away in Shanghai's suburban Jinshan District, this 1km+ long beach of soft & silky sand imported from Hainan Island sits along a stretch of ocean sent through a dynamic filtration system. As a result, the water is beautifully blue; rarely seen in China, especially near major cities like Shanghai. If you’re looking for solitude, try the eastern end of the beach, as it’s usually less crowded while the western end has beach encompasses volleyball, Frisbee, drunkards, and music.
