Step 1: Transfer the Money to your friend and begin
Send the amount of RMB you wish to transfer to your account back home. Once you do this with your friend’s permission take or direct them on the phone to select “More” (B; 更多). Once you click on the more button you’ll see all of the icons on the right. From here you want to select “International Transfer” (option A).

Step 2: Send Money Abroad
Choose option A to send some money home and finally start paying off those student loans you’ve been ignoring for years, or buy Christmas gifts for the family, or whatever the hell you may need money for back in the West. Point being, don’t pick option B.

Step 3: Fill out the Form
This form will appear next. Starting from “B” fill in your/receiver’s name (B), Nationality (C), Receiving Address registered with that bank card (D), Receiving Bank (E), and Receiving Bank Account Number (F).

If this person never sent money abroad/too your account before they won’t have all the accounts, you see listed here. Simply select option A for adding a new account to transfer the money into. Once on this page you will need to add fill in the receiving bank’s “Swift Codes”, “Routing Number”, Bank Name, etc. etc.

Step 4: Currency & Amount
On this page “A” simply notes “Payment information.” Select your currency (B), Amount (C), and Reason (D). For reason you can individually select and translate whichever one best suits why you’re transferring the money, but typically speaking it doesn’t matter. Letter “E” is simply a memo if you’d like to see it when the money pops up in your bank account. For example, I write “Your Rich Bitch!” in every memo of transfers that I send to myself…but that’s just me.

Step 5: Confirm & Send
Congratulations! You’ve done it. Just make sure all the details are correct and hit the big button (H) at the bottom of the screen to send the money. It typically takes about 2-3 business days to arrive but is occasionally even faster. If it doesn’t arrive within 5 days, I would speak with your Chinese friend and have them double check to see if there was a problem and the money was refunded. Needless to say, the friend you choose should be a very close friend or co-worker that you know you can trust.
Note* The above fee mentions RMB 70 for transferring, however I’ve always had a fee of RMB 50 when transferring money to my New York based Chase Bank account, so this may be subjected to which location you are sending the money to. Enjoy!
