Every month we reward the best dishes we’ve had the pleasure of tasting. Following our careful and gluttonous selection process, we present to you our June favorites from Colca, Bread Etc, The Bull & Claw 2.0 and Funkadelino. Plus an honorable mention for Silex.

 

SILEX

Editor’s pick


Homemade tofu with Ponzu. RMB 128


We don’t write about tofu enough. Shame on us, because Silex offers some of the best your going to find anywhere. The plate comes with an intriguing DIY motif, allowing you to make your own tofu in the purest and freshest way. This is something you definitely need to try before you leave China.


Caramelized black cod with miso RMB 358


You may not know it, but this dish is legendary in London. The Chef used to work there for years and this was one of his signature dishes. Considered the ‘Best cod fish in London’ by many local media outlets, we were honored to try it. It took months for the chef to crack the recipe and we understand why - this dish is to die for. Glazed with sake and miso, this masterpiece has such sweet subtle touches of flavor that, well, not enough words. Just go get it, that’s the best review we can give.

COLCA


Prawn Chilli (RMB 128)

 

The name itself is a homage to a seafood staple in Peru where every family has their own secret recipe. Seeing prawns in a sizzling hot pan covered in crustacean sauce takes you to the ocean within seconds. With a tinge of spicy siracha on Catalan bread, this seafood option is one that will captivate your heart and leave you craving more.

BULL AND CLAW 2.0


Veal Tartare RMB98


Australian veal tartare topped with deep friend quail eggs, capers and shallots with grilled ciabatta. We’ve had at least 100 tartare’s in our life and nothing tastes worse than a bad one. Here, great success, everything is good. Frying quail egg is an awesome idea.

BREAD ETC


RMB 98 for that much food!


It is not a breakfast but an early morning feast! We tried it and couldn’t even finish what we got.

The deal? RMB 98 for your choice of egg (scramble, omelet etc), Rye flour bread, quinoa salad, mini cups mix (Avocado blend, red beans and sesame paste) plus a granola-yogurt bowl with fresh fruits, dry fruits and seeds. PLUS your choice of orange or carrot juice and a hot drink (tea, coffee, soja milk).

Is it worth it? Definitely! It’s a savory explosion and an ideal way to start your day. Our favorite is the granola-yogurt – a pyrotechnics show in a bowl.

FUNKADELINO


Vitello tonnato RMB75


Not the most photogenic dish of the year but divine on the palate. Sliced cold veal covered with a tuna-caper mayonnaise-like puree.  Good ham and cream for a consistent and satisfying result. We loved it, and so will you.
