Charlie's Burger Secret Kitchen, The Milkshake Bar Opens
Do you ever wonder where Charles, the founder of Charlie’s Burger, gets his inspiration for all his creations? The Milkshake Bar, Charles' new spot is where he will be concocting and testing out all the new recipes before it rolls out to his two (and soon to be three) locations: Charlie’s Changshu Lu, Charlie's Jing'an Kerry Center. Don’t be surprised if you see a huge sign that says “Charlie's Test Kitchen”.
The Milkshake Bar takes over the old Captain Rooster spot, which is just down the street from Charlie’s Burger.
Filled with natural light and bistro style seating arrangements, The Milkshake Bar is just the causal dining place you are looking for with hearty comfort foods that you only see on Instagram come to life. Although it is only in soft opening stage, the dishes here are impressive and will leave you satisfied.

Random Good Things
Avocado Toast, RMB45
And it certainly is good! Who can resist a generous portion of Avocado Toast? It’s homemade sourdough toast topped with tomato hummus, avocado flower and poached egg, topped with Parmesan cheese shavings. As beautiful as it is to look at, it is packed with flavor in every bite.
Bang Bang Chicken Quesadilla, RMB55
Save room for this gem. Made sous vide style, the chicken is marinated with Sichuan flavors and Chinese styled peppercorn (hence the name Bang Bang), squeezed between crispy quesadilla. What is a sous vide? It’s food that’s cooked in low temperature over a long period.
Bang Bang Chicken & Guacamole Sandwich, RMB55
If you are not a quesadilla fan, try the Bang Bang Chicken & Guacamole sandwich. The chicken is also cooked in a sous vide style so it’s juicy and tender. To capture the flavors, the sandwich is made from their homemade apple yeast sourdough bread, which complements the flavors to a tee. Each bite is chewy and packed with hints of the Sichuan ingredients, so it’s not overwhelming to the palette.
Milkshake Bar Ribs, RMB95
If you are a fan of fall-off the bone ribs, this THE place to be. Slow cooked for 8 hours, it is marinated in their own homemade barbeque sauce, which is made from the drippings of the meat, so it is packed with umami flavor. The meat is so tender; it literally, falls off the bone and melts in your mouth.

Sichuan Wings, RMB75
Another Sichuan spice inspired dish, the chicken is first deep-fried and then tossed in Sichuan seasoning. But don’t let the description throw you off, it’s not spicy so it is suitable for anyone.
8oz Sous Vide Wagyu Burgers
The 8oz (240 gram) Wagyu burger is a glistening perfection of beauty. And why wouldn’t it be amazing? Cooked to medium rare, the Wagyu beef patty is cooked via the sous vide style for an hour and a half, so the meat is extra tender and moist. Squeezed between their homemade hamburger buns, it soaks up all the flavors, delivering deliciousness bite after bite. Another option is the Bacon and Blue Cheese Burger (RMB85).

Talk about 2,000 calories in a cup! This is perfect for the indulgent foodie. It has everything, and more than you can imagine. This is exactly what Charles “Test Kitchen”, aka. The Milkshake Bar has in mind—to deliver the crazy and test the limits.
Kid’s Fantasy
These loaded milkshakes only come in a limited varieties and can range anywhere from RMB80-100. This Kid’s Fantasy has everything you can imagine. It is a vanilla based milkshake that is blended with Oreo waffles, cotton candy, Shanghai-style popsicle, marshmallow and a sparkler, which will give you 30seconds of Instagram/WeChat/Facebook and selfie pleasure.
Donut of Tomorrow
Featuring, the ‘donut of the day’, this extravagant milkshake is chocolate based and served with Oreo waffles, chocolate pieces. It also comes with a sparkler. Of course, why should kids have all the fun?
Owner and chief creator at The Milkshake Bar, Charles will give all customers that come this week (until Sunday, 30 July) a free pint of house beer, Coors or Tiger if they say the password, "I love Milkshakes".
