10 Ways Shanghai Does it Better Than New York
Wish you were living in New York? Dreaming of life in the Big Apple? Shanghai living is also pretty good, here are 10 ways Shanghai does it better than New York.
3 Tallest Buildings in the World in One City Block
Three of Shanghai's tallest: Jinmao Tower, Shanghai World Financial Center and now Shanghai Tower have all made the world’s top 20 highest sky scrapers in the world compared to two in New York.

Closer to International Destinations
New York may be an international city, but if you want to actually go international, Shanghai is the place for you! Just three hours away is Seoul and Taipei. Five hours, you can be in Japan or Hong Kong. If you want to escape the US and travel to a foreign destination, you need at least 6 hours to reach England, or a quick flight to the north for Canada.

Any Market for Any Needs
You can get almost anything you want at any time in one of the many markets in Shanghai. In the camera market, you can access fresh-out-of-the-factory goods, but also second hand cameras and professional studio equiptment.
All in one place! Same applies to the electronic markets, you can find any type of digital gizmo versus hopping around different scattered shops and checking Craigslist.
Outdoor Skywalk
Call it an unfair advantage, but Jin Mao Tower offers an outdoor Skywalk. Which doesn’t exist in New York.
Free Wifi Everywhere
Tourist? No problem. You can go into any restaurant or coffee shop and they will gladly share their Wifi. This is not the case in NYC. You need to be part of a phone plan, open a Boing account with a credit card before you can surf the net.
Bike Sharing Everywhere
Shanghai has so many bike shares, its entire sidewalks are flooded with these multi colored rides. You see everyone on one of these. Whereas New York’s bike share is stagnant with many New Yorkers still preferring the subway, taxis and busses.
Clean Metro
New York has one of the oldest Metro systems in the world, so it is without a doubt that Shanghai’s metro system is cleaner and fresher. They even have lunch box vending machines and freshly squeezed orange juice if you ever need a bite to go.
Pampered foreigner life
Foreigners have it good. Foreigners have more benefits in Shanghai than New York. Don’t believe it? Have you ever seen an English-speaking person working at a convenience store or low-level service job? Not often.
Fresh Markets Everywhere
You can have daily fresh fruits and vegetables in the many local markets in Shanghai, and if you miss some local foods you can hit up the Avocado Lady. This is better than waiting around for the local farmers market to come in New York, which only opens on certain times of the month.
Social Life for the Elderly
The dancing Aunties and Uncles are all over the place in Shanghai, brightening up the neighborhood and each other. From dancing to taking their grandkids to school or doing taichi. This says a lot since we hardly see any elderly in New York, let alone out and about dancing their hearts out.
