F&B News Bites
Shanghai is a small town when it comes to expat living and we all love a bit of small town gossip. We have been pressing our little ears up to keyholes and squeezing our informants to get the low down on what’s going on. *
*We haven’t really we are just gathering together random bits of information floating around WeChat because it’s a slow news day. We were trying to find stories about people getting things stuck up their bottoms but no luck.
In all seriousness there are going to be some pretty big closures and opening heading our way in the next month or so, nothing as exciting as the man who put a live eel up his bottom but NEARLY!
1. Smash is closing
We love Smash. We are sad, Smash is closing we are going to write about how sad we are about Smash closing until new Smash opens up again. Wah. Sad. Smash! Did I mention we love smash! Closing party is coming up this weekend and you should check it out.
Where: 685 Dingxi Lu
When: 30th September
2. Arcade is closing
Boooooooo! Another good Shanghai bar is closing up shop. They’re having their closing party this weekend. It’s the same day as Smash so it might be tricky toss up.
Where: 57 FuxingXi Lu
When: Saturday night
3. The Rooster has a new menu
The rooster is spicing things up, quite literally! (Try their Lao Gan Ma hummus, sounds weird but tastes good). They are also rolling out some strong American classics with the odd twist thrown in. Burger nights on Mondays and some really amazing chicken wings.
*Important note to all British people, you’re going to get to the Rooster and see ‘Pigs in Blankets’ on the menu, before you get excited and think all your Christmassy dreams of the mother land have come early, I have some bad news. American ‘Pigs in Blankets’ are actually sausage rolls… and so the cultural divide grows.
Where: 455 Shanxi Bei Lu
4. Zozzo Pizza is moving
You can normally check out Zozzo’s in Metrocity but they are closing down and moving on up. However have no fear, this is not the end of decent Italian dough. They are just relocating to Donghu Lu! Which is great news… If you live near Donghu Lu and like pizza… Which I do! Huzzah.
5. Myst reopening
You just can’t keep a good kid down! Wahoo Myst! Well done for getting your stripes back and reentering the Shanghai party scene. They are having a soft re-opening, but as all things Myst we are actually expecting it to be BIG.
Where: 1123 Yanan Zhong Lu
When: All weekend
6. Taco bell is opening in Puxi
Another great thing happening on MaomingLu! Now you can drink your fill at Goose Island and then head over to Taco Bell for all your Tex-Mex needs.
7. Jamie Oliver is Coming to Town.
Jamie Oliver, British TV Chef is coming to town by December, bringing with him jamie’s Italian. Horrah! Probably the only British man who is allowed to cook Italian food without getting battered over the head with truncheons of raw spaghetti by all da’ Italians. Oliver is most well known for saving British School children from the horrors of school dinners and putting olive oil on absolutely everything! Keep your eyes peeled for more info coming your way.
