3 New Bars to Hit During the Holiday

2017-10-01 ShanghaiWOWeng

Staying in Shanghai for the holidays? Don’t worry, there’s plenty to do, especially considering these three new bars just opened and will be open throughout the entire holiday week. Enjoy!

BAR #1: Barraco

Address: 559 Middle Fuxing Lu, near Sinan Lu

Hours: Tuesday to Sunday 6pm- 12am

This bar is the coolest thing ever and it's brand-spanking-new! It’s a Brazilian bar and it’s based around the favelas of southern Brazil. This is such a cool concept and it has been pulled off fantastically. There are swings for seats and a chilled out beachy vibe. There’s also a magical outdoor area to make the most of while the weather holds out. This place would be a great laid back date spot or good for grabbing drinks with a mate.

They make a really mean caipirinha, which is a Brazilian cocktail made up of lime, sugar cachaca (a Brazilian white spirit) and loads of ice. It’s punchy and delicious without being too sweet, very much worth trying.

They also do nice bar snacks, but it is a snack place, not a dinner place. We recommend the pao de queijo, in case your Portuguese is a little rusty they are delicious little bready-cheesy-bally things. Or if you have a sweet tooth try the brigadeiro, which is a chocolate concoction that looks a little like a truffle, it’s made of chocolate and condensed milk and would kill any sweet craving.

They only opened last Tuesday so it’s super super low key right now. But we would highly recommend checking it out.

**DEAL ALERT FOR READERS** Say “Shanghai WOW!” at the bar to get 50% off your first caipirinha.

BAR #2:  Hitachino

Address: 519 Fuxing Zhong Lu

Tel: 021 5401-9296

Hours: Tue-Fri:4:30pm-1am, Sat-Sun: 11:30am-1am, closed Mondays

And hey, right down the street from Barraco you can find the newly-opened Japanese bar Hitachino. They’re offering an eating-drinking extravaganza spread across four beautiful floors. The first two floors offer relazed atmosphere with seating outside and a selection of tasty beers, Japanese bar snacks and light meals.

The third floor is a tepanyaki restaurant designed for group bookings of around 10, they can be a little flexible, but the minimum spend is RMB 680. Not the cheapest dinenr around town but for birthdays etc it’s a solid option.

Finally, on the fourth floor they have a private bar you can rent out for parties and work events. They have an extensive collection of Japanese whiskies and a variety of other spirits. Contact them if you want to inquire about rates.

BAR #3: Beer Plus

Address: 406 Changshou Lu

Tel: 137 9524 1780

Hours: Daily, 11am-3am

It seems the whole beer supermarket thing is a winning formula in Shanghai (or at least some investors seem to think so). Beer Plus is the latest bottle shop bonanza, sitting right next to the Changshou Lu metro station.

Once inside you'll find an endless refrigerated selection of imported and local beers, as well as liquors, cocktails (in buckets for RMB 50), draft beers and even a food menu.

According to a staff member they’re contemplating eventually being open 24-7. As for now you can swing by daily from 11am-3am. And yes, they’re open this entire holiday week, so it’s a perfect time to try.
