Now Open: Italian Deli, Alimentari, Replaces Feidan on Anfu Lu
After serving the expat community faithfully on Anfu Lu for eleven years, mainstay grocery store slash al fresco beer spot, Feidan has been turned into a proper European (heavy on the Italian products) deli and grocery. Like its predecessor, Alimentari is part of the Popolo Group (which includes popular Italian restaurants Gemma and Bar Centrale).
If Feidan was your favorite location for summer drinks and tipsy grocery shopping, Alimentari will take you into fall and beyond with yummy bites, tipples and an upgraded yet casually cool atmosphere.
What’s available?
Huge selection of European wines starting from RMB150
The store stocks a vast selection of wines picked out by the Popolo group’s two sommeliers that representing regions far and wide including Italy, Spain and Australia priced ¥150 and above. If you are in a rush to pour that white wine, rest assured they keep them chilled.
Italian imported pastas
All the sauces you need
High quality imported vinegars and oils
Balsamic vinegars and a lovely selection of honey
As for the groceries, you will find exactly what you need to prepare a simple and hearty Italian feast: fancy pastas in a dizzying array of shapes, pasta sauces, tinned tomatoes, olive oils, vinegars and pesto. All Italian products are purchased directly from Italian producers which allows them to provide customers the best of Italian cuisine at fair prices.
Various cans of chestnut paste
They also quite a selection of chestnut paste if you want to try your hand at a stuffed tortellini Christmas cookie, a Mont Blanc or just eat it with a spoon out of the can. We won’t tell if you don’t.
The deli counter is really where it’s at.
Bulk granola selection
They have a selection of Smarty Granola flavors available as well as their own delicious chocolate granola at ¥35 per 100g. The balance of melted 10% Valrona chocolate with 10% chocolate chips is rich and satisfying; tasty enough for dessert, not too sweet for breakfast.
Black olives, green olives, stuff peppers and smoked artichoke
The marinated olives selection is sizeable. We tried a few, all super tasty, and we love the bright and flavorful lemon stuffed (¥40/100g) variety. Other good choices are the feta stuffed peppers (¥48/100g) and the smoked artichokes (¥45/100g). You can’t go wrong here.
Italian, English and French fine cheeses
Thanks to Alimentari, you will now have the best cheese boards ever. The Grand Livarot (¥81/100g) is a pungent washed rind soft cheese. The funky Sainte Nectaire (¥81/100g), has more liquid texture and nuttier taste. Finish that board with rich Swiss (¥63/100g), fragrant truffle-filled Molltemo de Tartufo (¥126/100g) and crumbly cracked pepper Somerdale cheddar (¥38.8/100g).
The amazing meat counter
Stars of the meat counter are the Salame Milano (¥26/100g), Parma Ham (¥44/100g) and Culatello herbed ham (¥18). Add to a plank or enjoy in a sandwich. Breads are imported from France frozen and baked in Shanghai. The four choices are ciabatta, walnut, baguette and fig.
An assorted cold cut and cut cheese plank
Take your cold cut and cheese plank outside and enjoy it with one of their hand crafted, bottled cocktails.
All of their bottled cocktails
From the specially designed labels to the contents within, the cocktails showcase the thought and care put into this concept. They range from ¥38 for a bloody mary to ¥168 for a negroni. Bottled Aperol spritz (¥98) is bound to make the living easy.
Saving the rest of the cocktail for later
The best part is you can rebottle your cocktails if you are a responsible person. They have a machine on hand to reseal your precious leftovers.
Upstairs view of Anfu Lu
Just upstairs is Coffee Lab, a café and roastery concept run separately yet conceived by the same group. They do a nice priced variety of pour overs from the Brazil (¥25) to more premium Ethiopia Yirgachef and Kenya roasts (both ¥35). Basic espresso beverages are also priced well with espresso running ¥20 and cappuccino for ¥30.
Barista hard at work
One perfect pour over
Alimentari is basically a one stop shop for all your food, beverage and socializing needs. With its central location, they are sure to do a brisk and steady business. See you there!
