Beijing-Born Moka Bros Has Just Touched Down in Shanghai
A new addition to Shanghai’s hipster dining scene (we needed more hipster –right??) Moka Bros is a trendier, more down with da’kids version of element fresh. They carry yummy salads, wraps, poke poke bowls and a whole host of nutritious delights. The best thing about their meals is you actually leave feeling full, which is always a treat.
Mexican Bowl: chicken filet marinated in paprika, brown rice, tomato, avocado, onion, jalapeno, black beans, corn & cilantro RMB68, Add RMB18 for beef or chicken.
Another reason I am super pro-Moka Bros is their booze. Yes. Booze in a health food place. I love it. You can eat your salad and wash it down with a large white wine and a cigarette, or you can have a delicious smoothy and keep on the healthy vibe.
Go Bananas Waffle: Banana, Dulce de Leche, Almonds, Moka-Almond Ice Cream, Nuts, RMB45
I spoke to some of the guys down at Moka Bros to ask them why they hadn’t gone all hard-core-health-freak, allow me to now summarize that two hour conversation in two sentences – Moka Bros believes that being healthy is a lifestyle choice and part of that is about having a balance and they want to provide that balance here.
The décor is pretty cool, lots of ‘alternative seating’ – read bean bags – and slouchy seats. They have a really nice terrace that’s pretty big, dog and child friendly. I would recommend it as a good spot for a bite of lunch, or a loungey brunch. (Rhymes)
All in all, Moka Bros is a good one and if I had to bet, I would have my money on them being around for a while. I know from my Beijing mates that they throw some pretty cool/weird parties up in the chilly north, so I am waiting to see what they hit Shanghai with. Bring it Moka Bros, we’re ready.
