An Interview with Pro Skater Adee Lu

2017-11-21 ShanghaiWOWeng

2017 ASC series is a skateboard competition coming to Shanghai this Friday. We got a chance to chat with one of the competitors, pro skater Adee Lu from Taiwan.

Adee is 30 years old and has been skateboarding for over 17 years. His sponsors include DC Shoes, Bones Bearings, Shanghai skateshop Flystreetwear and numerous others. After living in Shanghai for 7 years, he’s back in Taiwan now, but he’s back in town for the 2017 ASC series.

What is it like being back in Shanghai?

A: Not much has changed, it just feels like coming back home, which is amazing!

Are you pumped for this 2017 ASC series? Think you’ll take #1?

A: Yes for sure I’m so excited. I would love to win the competition but I have to admit there are a ton of incredible skaters competing this year, so competition will be stiff. I’m just going to do my best and try to have fun!

Shanghai or Taiwan, which is better for skateboarding?

A: I think Shanghai for sure. This city is like a skate heaven, with perfect marble everywhere and countless spots all over the place. Shanghai hands down.

What would surprise most people about the life of a pro skater?

A: I think the grind of it. It’s just skating every day. Working on the same tricks over and over again until you’re consistent, always learning new stuff and keeping your eyes open for competitions, and opportunities to film.

What do you do when you’re not skating?

A: Nothing special. I try to get up early go to gym. As a pro athlete it’s important to exercise and strengthen my body. I also spend time chilling with friends. That’s about it.

Most pro skaters have to stop competing in their late 30’s or early 40’s, what do you see yourself doing after skateboarding?

A: I try to help some brands and companies understand what skaters need and think. Whatever I do after this it will definitely still involve skateboarding somehow. It’s real love and something I’ll never be able to walk away from.
