Skype Disappears from Chinese App Stores

2017-11-22 ShanghaiWOWeng

Skype, the internet phone call and messaging service owned by Microsoft, is no longer available on a wide number of app downloading sites in China, including Apple’s.

An emailed statement released by an Apple spokeswoman said Tuesday “We have been notified by the Ministry of Public Security that a number of voice over internet protocol apps do not comply with local law. Therefore these apps have been removed from the app store in China,” “These apps remain available in all other markets where they do business.”

When you search for 'Skype' on Apple's Chinese app store it's gone, only Skype for Business comes up.

Skype’s future in China is currently unclear, but a Microsoft spokesman said the service had been “temporarily removed” from Apple’s store and they are “working to reinstate the app as soon as possible.”
