Where Business Ballers Go For Drinks in Shanghai

2017-11-27 ShanghaiWOWeng

You’ve got clients in town and need to take them out for a drink, what’s it gonna be? That’s the idea behind our list of places around Shanghai that the corporate power players and high-class, sharp-dressed businesspeople hit when they want a night out on the town.

Hakkasan

Address: Bund 18, 5/F, 18 Zhongshan Dong Yi Lu

Tel: 021 6321 5888

Hours: Mon-Thu, 5:30pm-12:30am, Fri-Sat, 5:30pm-2:00am, Sun, 5:30pm-11:30pm

The Shanghai branch of London’s Michelin-starred Hakkasan is simply gorgeous, and Bund 18 is synonymous with prestige. Dark woods are cut through with intricate light installations and the panoramic views of the city give you something to ogle when you get bored of all the beautiful people. Add to that their well-executed haute Cantonese cuisine and clever cocktails, and it’s no surprise this place has won countless awards since it first opened in 2014.

The Nest

Address: 6/F, 130 Beijing Dong Lu

Tel: 021 6308 7669

Hours: Daily, 5:30pm-1am

The Nest is best known for delicious brunch, oyster deals and top-shelf cocktails (and of course that ‘big crazy light thing’ hanging from the ceiling). The laid-back Nordic gastro-lounge has just introduced a new menu perfect for wowing clients and sealing the deal. Even if you only stay for one drink, it’s worth it just to gawk at the beautiful the interior design and overall concept are.

Music Room (SWFC)

Address: 100 Century Avenue, Park Hyatt SWFC, 92/F

Tel: 021 6888 1234

Hours: Daily, 6pm-1am (2am on weekends)

Show those clients you care by taking them to the highest bar in Shanghai, the SWFC’s Music Room, which is also one of the highest bars in the world. If that doesn’t work, their sleek lounge, live music and perfect cocktails should win over pretty much anyone.

The Cannery

Address: Rm 106, Bldg 1, 1107 Yuyuan Lu

Tel: 021 5276 0599

Hours: Daily, 5pm-12am

When you need a location slightly more central,  The Cannery is the way to go. Located on one of Shanghai’s most beautiful tree-lined streets, Yuyuan Lu, it boasts a warm, glowing ambiance created when lights reflect on the copper hued ceiling tiles, and a thoroughly impressive fresh and canned seafood menu, this place stuns. Don’t forget to try one of their countless top-shelf whiskys while you’re there.

Morton's The Steakhouse

Address: IFC Pudong, 4/F, 8 Shiji Da Dao

Tel: 021 6075 8888

Hours: Sun-Thu, 11.30am-10pm, Fri-Sat, 11.30am-11pm

Nothing matches the biz baller crowd more than a big quality slab of meat and Morton’s The Steakhouse from Chicago is world famous for having some of the best steaks available. They've got you covered in the meat department, and numerous others including their perfect blue cheese stuffed olive dirty martini. Morton’s won’t disappoint.

Constellation Exclusive

Address: 77 Feng Yang Lu (near Taiyuan Lu)

Tel: 021 5465 96206

Hours: Mon-Sun 12:00pm-2am

There are plenty of Constellations to choose from, all top-notch. But on one of them is literally top-notch, Constellation Exclusive. They only carry top-shelf liquors here, and the interior is so classy and gorgeous that you'd expect James Bond to waltz through any minute. Top choice indeed.

8 1/2 Otto e Mezzo BOMBANA

Address: 6th floor at Associate Mission historical building, 169 in Yuanmingyuan Road

Tel: 021- 60872890

Hours: Dinner: everyday 6pm to 11pm, Brunch: Sundays 11:30am to 2:30pm, Cocktail Bar: 5pm until 1am

Chef Umberto Bombana is the man behind the powerhouse 8½ Otto e Mezzo Bombana brand. Instead of telling you how incredible it is or all the awards they’ve won, we’ll explain the name. Bombana says it’s a tribute to Italian film director Federico Fellini’s 1963 movie 8½, depicting a film director retreating deep into his mind. That, mixed with a tribute to Italian lifestyle and art (and of course the chef’s last name), and you've got a sleek, sexy environment that's perfect for a business baller evening.

Cloud 9 (Grand Hyatt)

Address: Grand Hyatt, Jin Mao Tower, 87/F, 88 Century Avenue

Tel: 021 5047 8838

Hours: Mon-Thu, 5pm-1am, Fri, 5pm-2am, Sat, 2pm-2am, Sun, 2pm-1am

Some bars are meant for a quick wow, and then you get the hell out of there. Cloud 9 might be just that.

Piano Bar (Grand Hyatt)

Address: Grand Hyatt, Jin Mao Tower, 53/F, 88 Century Avenue

Tel: 021 5049 1234

Hours: Daily, 5pm-1am

If you’re already in the Grand Hyatt for a drink at Cloud 9, you might as well slip over to Piano Bar for a more relaxed (and inexpensive) evening. You can also expect some live piano music throughout the night.

Flair (Ritz Carlton)

Address: Ritz-Carlton Pudong, 58/F, 8 Shiji Da Dao

Tel: 021 2020 1778

Hours: Daily, 5:30pm-2am

If you want the best of the best in terms of rooftop drinks, this is probably it. Drinks are a bit pricey, but what would you expect at such a jaw-dropping venue in one of the biggest cities on the planet?

WOOBAR (W Hotel)

Address: W Shanghai – The Bund, 4/F, 66 Lvshun Lu

Tel: 021 2286 9961

Hours: Daily, 10am-1am

Business ballers will certainly be wowed at WOOBAR, the W Hotel’s stunning new space along the Bund. The W is known for having some of the most dynamic and gorgeous spaces in the game, and WOOBAR is absolutely no exception.

Vue Bar (Hyatt on The Bund)

Address: Hyatt on the Bund, 32-33/F, 199 Huangpu Lu

Tel: 021 6393 1234 ext 6348

Hours: Sun-Thu, 6pm-1am, Fri-Sat, 6pm-2am

Vue Bar is another contender for best view in the city, but their northern location looking down the Huangpu gives them an edge providing both Bund and Lujiazui views. Additionally, as their focus is M.I.C.E. driven (meeting incentive conferences and events), over at Hyatt on the Bund, you can be sure to hobnob with other business people who are staying in the hotel. As with others in the category though, it’ll cost you a little extra for those cocktails.

Roosevelt Sky Restaurant

Address: The House of Roosevelt, 8/F, 27 Zhongshan Dong Yi Lu

Tel: 021 2322 0800

Hours: Sun-Wed, 11.30am-1am, Thu-Sat, 11.30am-2am

The House of Roosevelt is the place to host your corporate dinner if you want to give your guests a glimpse of luxury housed in a historic Bund locale. The view and environment in the Roosevelt are as good as it gets around the Bund. The modern Western menu and a vast range of wines perfectly suit the charm and old world mystique unique to House of Roosevelt. If you still aren’t convinced, Anthony Bourdain found it worthy of a visit when he was in town.

Jade on 36 Bar (Shangri-La Pudong)

Address: 36/F, Grand Tower, Pudong Shangri-La, 33 Fucheng Lu

Tel: 021 6882-8888 ext. 6888

Hours: Sun-Thu: 5pm-1am, Fri-Sat: 5pm-2am

Jade on 36 is a great location for a business lunch or weekend brunch, but the real draw here is that venue space and views look right out of a Bond movie. For a baller evening out, hit this spot for a drink and you’ll look every bit the part.

Long Bar (Waldorf)

Address: Waldorf Astoria, Heritage Building, Lobby Level, 2 Zhongshan Dong Yi Lu

Tel: 021 6322 9988

Hours: Mon-Sat, 4pm-1am, Sun, 2pm-1am

What can you say about a venue so steeped in rich history and class? The Long Bar has more charm and elegance than you’ll know what to do with on an evening out with the VIPs and business people.
