Club 3 1/3 is Sleek Lounge Perfection

2017-11-29 ShanghaiWOWeng

If you’re looking for a new hangout in the bund vicinity then look no further than 3 1/3. It’s the perfect spot to wow guests from out of town, your new date or seal business deals. Basically it’s hitting all the spots providing an elegant lounge vibe early in the evening with more club like atmosphere as the hours pass. While opulent, they do not enforce a strict dress code (just no shorts please) making it a comfortable place to socialize.

New York architect and designer, Michael Hsieh, has created a beautiful vintage inspired space with sleek touches that remind us of a Jazz bar in London’s SoHo. It’s all turquoise velvets and dim lighting, the type that makes everyone 10% more attractive. There are tons of squishy, comfy seating and little dark corners you can tuck yourselves away in. Whilst the bar is open from 8pm, the party really starts around 11pm with a nightly rotation of DJs.

Geisha (RMB 115)

Cocktails are priced around RMB 100 and are worth every penny. Interestingly served in teapots and with feather embellishments and great, if unusual, flavor combinations.

The teapot cocktail is the Geisha RMB 115, made of Umeshu plum wine, Mathilda frambois, wild honey and prosecco. The mix of flavors is quite nice and it’s easy to drink in tea cup sized servings, but this is 100% a cocktail for people with a sweet tooth.

Black Swan (RMB 110)

The Black Swan is one of their signature cocktails named after the PR company run by Club 3 1/3 owner, Mimi Tung. Imagine a coffee martini on steroids. Made with grey goose, black cherry, coffee, vanilla and walnut bitters this drink packs a punch.

Seductress (RMB 110)

The drink we see ourselves ordering the most is the Seductress as we were indeed seduced by the combination of bitter and fruity flavors. Grey Goose, Crème de Mure, Amaro Montenegro are mixed with rosemary, lemon and egg white. The hint of rosemary and creamy foam from the egg white make this drink almost Christmasy.

As one cannot live on drinks alone, they have a selection of bar snacks by Anthony Chow and Joey Cheong (also responsible for Bites & Bottle-O). The small bites are of the East/West fusion variety that is so on trend these days.

Asian flavored hand pulled meat sliders trio (RMB 125)

Each of the pulled meat sliders in the trio have a different taste. Our favorite is the fermented bean paste with pork, which uses the almost cheesy Chinese ingredient, furu, but the soy sauce and bang bang chicken are also good for a nibble.

Sichuan mala beef nachos (RMB 88)

We have never had such neat little bites of nachos before and we really like it. The bold mix of spicy Sichuan and Mexican flavors is sure to make you thirst for more. Good thing the bar is fully stocked.

On Wednesday nights you can get nine shots of grey goose  and a tin of black caviar for RMB 680. This. is. an. amazing. deal. Our recommendation on how to get the delicious caviar into your gob with the least amount of fuss is to imagine you’re doing a really classy version ofa tequila slammer. (See photo below)

Spoon caviar on hand, fist bump your friends, eat caviar, shoot vodka and REPEAT

They also offer 30g of the Black Pearl caviar with classic condiments on blinis (RMB 68) if you prefer eating things on blinis over licking them off your hands. It’s less fun, we say, but you do you boo. Feel free to add the blinis for RMB 100 to your Wednesday night Grey Goose Wishes and Caviar Dreams deal as well, for the best of both worlds.

They have more cool weekly deals, including a free drink on a Wednesday if you’re wearing pearls or diamonds, and a free drink on a Friday if you’re wearing heels. Whilst these deals are obviously aimed at women, I’m sure if the guys came in 6 inch heels and a pearl necklace they would be allowed a free martini. The guys at 3 1/3 seem pretty progressive.

Address: Zhongshan Dong Yi Lu, Bund No 3,1/F

Opening times: 8pm to 3am on week nights and 8pm to 4am Friday & Saturday
