Cheap Eats: Authentic Guo Tie on Zhao Zhou Lu
A traditional Shanghainese Breakfast is not complete without Guo Tie, a local delicacy. Guo Tie is a fried dumpling normally filled with meat. We have found one of the best Guo Tie stores in the city Hong Yu Fang! The restaurant opened 9 years ago and quickly grew from a tiny 6 seater restaurant to what it is today. It’s run by a mother-son duo that both share a love of Guo Tie.
Following years of cooking experience, the Guo Tie today has a thick filling free of jelly and the soup is made from a bone-based broth, and all the Guo Tie and soup are made daily to ensure the freshest taste.
Not only are the Guo Tie here well-filled, they are also shaped in a skirt design, with a soft skin and crispy and non-oily bottom.
They also make small wontons which are great for people with a lighter palette, they taste great with a dash of pepper.
Other ingredients in the soup include egg, seaweed and shrimp.
The vermicelli is cooked just right, and with the egg, spring onion and tofu to compliment the wontons for a hearty meal.
The restaurant is super affordable but only takes cash so remember to bring some along!
