The New Year is just around the corner, which means you have only five days to pick just the right bottle of Champagne. We spoke to experts at some of Shanghai’s best wine bars to find five worthy bottles of true Champagne (no sparkling wines here) from prestige cuvées to very solid non vintage bottles. Read on to find out which fancy bottles you should be popping all night long. 


House of Roosevelt

The House of Roosevelt has their own private labels and the Champagne Roosevelt Rosé is created in collaboration with Michel Gonet, a large family-owned wine producer that has been working the vines for seven generations. This 100% Pinot bottle is fruity and creamy with a delicate effervescence perfect for ringing in the New Year; available at each of their restaurants as well as the Sky Bar.

Moët & Chandon Rosé Impérial is a festive, non-vintage pink bubbly


The Rosé Impérial is a spontaneous and bright wine made of a combination of Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir, Saugignon Blanc and Sémillon grapes. This full flavored champagne has fruity aromas that lead to flavors of red berries balanced by hints of mineral and apricot. Crisp acidity and a creamy mouthful make this pink beauty quite easy to drink.

NAPA Wine Bar & Kitchen


The house pour at NAPA Wine Bar & Kitchen is Champagne Bruno Paillard Première Cuvée NV


The Bruno Paillard family, who owns the vineyard and controls every step of the process, makes this bottle in house. This champagne is a greatly balanced blend of 25 vintages with low dosage, making it very fresh and vibrant with fine bubbles. The wine bursts with citrus, almond and toasted bread aromas followed by red fruits. Along with a full palate, it has an exquisitely clean finish.

This Champagne Drappier Brut Nature is very dry with no added sulfates 


The “Brut Nature” designation means that this wine is zero dosage or no sugar was added at the end, making for a bubbly that is much drier than average. It is difficult to resist this mineral Champagne with fresh nose and fine bubbles, so don’t even try. Even better, there are no sulfates in this wine. Indulge in a unique bottle for the New Year!

XO Bar


1995 de Venoge Louis XV is one of the most prestigious labels you will find in Shanghai


This gorgeous sparkler comes from the de Venoge Champagne house. For over 175 years, de Venoge has ensured that each bottle is aged for 36 months minimum, uses only first pressings and keeps grape varieties separated until final blending. This particular wine is 100% Grand cru grapes, produced in an elegant decanter-style bottle, resulting in a golden, complex wine deserving of the Louis XV name.
