Chinese New Year is on the horizon, and while that means vacation days and a significantly less-crowded Shanghai, it won't slow down the never-ending list of fun things to do around here. Here are 25 things you can look forward to during the month of February.


Exhibitions


Lettres Du Voyant: Joseph Beuys x Nam Jun Park


When: 20th January – 13th May 2018

By How Art Museum, the exhibition showcases works by German artist Joseph Beuys and Korean-American artist, Nam June Paik. The exhibition delves deeper into the relationship between both avant-garde artists in the 20th century, and serves as a great photo opportunity for those looking to take a few shots. 



Joshua Nathanson: High Flow


When: 3rd February – 4th April 2018

Address: 35 Fenggu Road

Price: Free


Nathanson’s first solo exhibition in China, High Flow will showcase the artist’s works during his period of residency in Shanghai last year. This includes five large-scaled paintings, two hand-pained murals, a video animation, and a towering 3D-designed sculpture. 



Joan Brossa Exhibition


When: 31st January – 24th March 2018

Address: Cervantes Library, No. 208 Anfu Road

Price: Free


Following the 100th Anniversary of Joan Brossa in 2019, look into some of his greatest works at the Cervantes Library this February.



“Tomodachi”


When: 25th January –5th March 2018

Standing at a majestic 5m tall, the French bulldog sculpture is created by famous American street artist, David Flores, and is aligned with the lunar new year of the dog.



Endoh Takashi: Minimalist Design


When: 27th January – 11th February 2018

Address: 1/F, No. 147 Jian Guo Zhong Lu

Price: Free


Showcasing 238 unique pottery works, including tea sets, flower vase, coffee machine, food processors and more, explore the creativity of pottery master, Takashi Endo.



Blissful Land I: Into the depth of statues and murals


When: 3rd February – 28th May 2018

Address: 3/F, Shanghai Himalayas Museum, 869 Yinghua Road

Price: RMB 50


Co-organized by the Shanghai Himalayas Museum and the Shanghai International Culture association, take a deeper look into the Chinese Buddha culture through the exhibition’s 80 unique pieces.



No Country for Old Men


When: 13th January – 14th March 2018

Address: Building 17, 50 Moganshan Lu

Price: Free


The exhibition will be American artist, Nancy Lupo’s first exhibition in Asia, and will run from 13th January – 14th March at the Antenna Space.



Old & New


When: 3rd February – 4th April 2018

This lunar new year, feel the warmth of art through the stories of men at the Shun Art Gallery. The exhibition will run from 3rd February to 4th April. 



“New Year” 2018 Sculpture


When: 19th January – 18th March 2018

Address: A101 Building 3, Shanghai Chuangyi Yuan, 731 Hongxu Lu

Titled “New Year”, the exhibition has a simple objective and pays homage to the ongoing new year festivities. 



Butterfly Wu: Queen of the Movies


When: 21st January – 18th March 2018

Collecting over 200 of the legendary artist’s photos and portraits, the exhibition delves into her extensive acting career, personal life and travel.



Alicia Kwode: ReReason


When: 19th December 2017 – 1st April 2018

Kwode’s first Asian exhibition, ReReason will feature 24 different pieces, exploring our life today through common day-to-day items.



Gaudi’s Wonder World Legend of the Century


When: 15th December 2017 – 4th March 2018

Opened in December, one of the exhibition’s pieces is made from 1 million mosaic pieces, the entire exhibition will feature over 40 other art pieces.



Treasures from the Acropolis Museum


When: 11th January – 18th April 2018

The exhibition showcases 2 treasures from the Acropolis Museum 46 32381 46 14942 0 0 4424 0 0:00:07 0:00:03 0:00:04 4423 the Archaic Kore (520 – 510 BC), which stands at 1.15m tall and made from marble, and the red-figured lekane lid with a Dionysian scene (350 – 325 BC).



Tadao Ando: Leading

Andou Tadao’s first self-designed gallery, the place features different architecture models, creative pieces, blueprints and more, all by the artist himself.



Frontier – Re-assessment of Post-Globalisation Politics

By OCAT (OCT-Contemporary Art Terminal), the exhibition is in line with the organization’s 5th year anniversary, and invites 30 over famous artist to discuss political art through a serious of performances, recordings, written works and more.



Cao Shu Ge Xing Exhibition

A modern adaptation of the traditional Chinese calligraphy, explore how language is used to talk about love, life, horoscope and more at the Cao Shu Ge Xing exhibition.



Music


Ride 2018 Asia Tour, Shanghai Stop

On 21st February, Ride will be releasing their first single, Charm Assault. This will be the first works by the band following a 21-year hiatus. A long awaited comeback, catch the band’s performance at Ruihong World this 28th February.

American singer and songwriter, Julie Byrne, will be performing for one night only at the Yuyintang this 7th February.

Diamond D 45’s DJ Set

Finding their music from the Bronx in New York, Diamond D founded the hip hop group, D.I.T.C (Diggin’ in the Crates Crew) and is currently singing, producing and DJ-ing. Watch him showcase his great music talent at Ruihong World this 2nd February.



Shuahri first album tour in China

Me, More Cool

Mark Seibert Concert
