New Opening: Little Creatures in Found 158
Little Creatures in the new kid on the block down in Found 158, it brings with it a delightful Aussie vibe that we are all going to absolutely love once the weather warms up. Actually it’s pretty great right now!
Beer Paddle 6 x 100ml RMB 78, 6 x 200ml 138 RMB
Little Creatures is an Australian craft brewery that focuses on great quality beers ranging from bright and light ales to dark smooth and chocolat-ey ales.
Rogers Amber Ale, RMB 45
My favourite beer was the Rogers Amber Ale, this beer looks very dark but the color comes from the fruit, not the hops, leaving it light in taste. It’s smooth, silky and malty. Each of their beers comes with a suggested meal pairing, which is really fun if you’re sharing a beer paddle and want to share dishes as well.
In fact the entire menu is based around sharing, it nurtures the idea that beer drinking is more than a hobby, but a lifestyle that’s social and fun. Being in a beer pub I expected the food to be heavy, warming and hearty. Whilst their menu does feature the prerequisite steaks, the majority of the menu is light and healthy, this would be the perfect place to pop in for lunch on a sunny day.
Roasted cauliflower, chickpea & arugula salad RMB 85
The cauliflower and chick pea salad is absolutely delicious, served on a bed of arugula and topped with avocado. The dressing is a coconut based and it makes the salad super fresh and unusual. One of the best salads I’ve had in ages! If you’re looking for a beer pairing they recommend the Dog Days session Ale, which is delicate in flavor and goes well with salads and seafood.
crispy chicken RMB 85
The crispy chicken bites were possibly a tad unhealthier than the salad, but they were great and would be a yummy snack to share. The chicken was really well fried and not at all greasy. The meat is tender and the batter is crisped to perfection. The dipping sauce is a sweet chili sauce with pineapple, which really brightened the chicken.
Smash Avocado Bowl RMB 95
Another great snack dish to share, the smashed avocado with huge tortillas that you can break and dip. The serving is really generous with tons of avocado to go around. If anything, you could do with an extra tortilla.
Steamed Mussels RMB 125
And lastly, my personal favorite: the mussels in chorizo and white wine sauce. The mussels are big and juicy with tons of flavor. The sauce is delicious and I immediately used all of the bread to soak it up. They recommended pairing this dish with the Bright Ale that is crisp and fruity in flavor. I immediately took up their suggestion and went to town on both.
All in all I was impressed with the food and the beers at Little Creatures. Especially the food, I already knew the beers would be good, but their menu is light, fun and thoughtful, ideal for a group of friends who want to sit and chat away a Saturday afternoon.
