How To Register Your Own Official WeChat Account

2018-02-18 ShanghaiWOWeng

Have you ever wanted to write your own blog? Create your own story? Or establish your own community? Well lucky for you, WeChat is the a very simple platform to do just that and it’s probably already taken over every other part of your daily life, so why not your hobbies as well?

Here is a specific guide to help you register your very own Official WeChat Subscription Account. If you are interested in opening a Service Account please note that it requires a registered business license in mainland China, thus complicating the process.

Step 1: Begin!

Go to mp.weixin.qq.com or scan the QR code below to take you their directly. From here the language will be by default in Chinese. It’s okay though. The globe in the top write that has “中文” written next to it allow you to switch to the English mirror of the platform. Before forewarned though, the English may confuse you more than the Chinese if you’ve been here for awhile.

Once your page is in a language you understand, follow the arrow in the photo to “Register Now” and you’re moments away from beginning your very own WeChat account!

Step 2: Choose Your Type | Everyone Has a Type

As I mentioned before, a service account will require a Chinese business license for authentication. Service accounts also limit your content posts to only FOUR broadcast posts per month. This isn’t great for a blog or even a busy that wants to put out regular content.

In this case, WeChat allows you to register a Subscription account as a 个人 (individual) without really any official verification. All you need here is a Chinese friend who likes you enough to let you use their 身份证 (ID Card) to register the account. Each local card can register up to FIVE WeChat accounts, so you are asking for a favor but I’m sure you have a close friend who will help you out. If not, there may or may not be many companies, Taobao stores, etc. that offer that service.  (I’m not sure how legal or allowed it is to purchase ID card #’s for WeChat but it’s a real thing)

Step 3: Registration

Here you’ll find the registration page where you have to put down all your information. Once again, if we are registering as an individual (what WeChat translates as “Sole Proprietorship”) then you can ignore the company name and business license information. All you need is an admin (Chinese local) with their name and ID Card #. The phone number can be your admins or your own (it doesn’t have to match).

Please note that the local friend you choose to help you needs to be present (by your side) when you register the account because there are some QR codes they will need to scan with their own WeChat.

Step 4: Account Information

Now it’s time for the hardest part of the entire process. Name and introduce your account to the world! Well about 1/7th of the world from the billion people using WeChat at least.

Choose an account name, but try not to worry too much. You are allowed to change this later if you wish. You can change an Official account name up to two times within the first year after registration!

What WeChat expertly translates as “Features” would be better described as your account introduction. Tell the world what you’ll be posting about and what exactly your account is here to do! You can change your account introduction up to four times per month!

Step 5: You're Done!

Just like that your account is registered and you are ready to begin! The above page is a (blurred out) copy of your introduction page! Here is where you can edit account information, such as name, account introduction, logo, and download the QR to pass out to friends and force them to follow you!

Enjoy!
