3 Great Places to Eat Breakfast

2018-03-03 Cristina Ng ShanghaiWOWeng

Mom always said, “Breakfast is the most important meal,” and after enjoying meals at Brut Cake Café, Pâte and RAC we have to say we definitely agree. Whether you prefer your breakfast sweet or savory, these places have all got something to help you start the day right.

Brut Cake Café – Zhaojiabang Lu

We are already big fans of Brut Cake and we love their spacious and bright new location on Zhaojiabang Lu. And thanks to China F&B Group, we have many future locations to look forward to which means breakfast all over the city!

They open early (as a good café should) and have breakfast sets available from 8am to 11am with Americano included. There is good variety from freshly baked pastries to a hearty breakfast.

Crispy bacon & egg sandwich (RMB 43)

For something easy and satisfying, go with an egg and bacon sandwich with tomato jam on sourdough bread. The roasted tomatoes served on the side are a particularly nice touch.

Blini (RMB 45) with peanut butter, banana, homemade jam

Bored with your standard PB&J? Well then get this blini AKA Russian pancake filled with peanut butter and bananas then topped with homemade jam. It’s just enough food to fill you up without weighing you down.

Pâte

If you are a regular reader, it probably comes as no secret that we are obsessed with the baked goods at lovely Pâte. They are always launching new pastry items, but since man cannot (should not?) live on cake alone, we were overjoyed to find out they had added breakfast items; available from 8:30am on weekday and 10am on weekends until closing!

Croque Forêt (RMB 48)

At the moment they have three options, which include two croques and one quiche. You can’t really go wrong with cheese melted on top of bread, but their versions are special because they bake their own fantastic foccacia bread. Go classic with a croque monsieur (ham) or try something new with the croque forêt (chicken and mushroom).

Quiche (RMB 52)

As could be expected the crust on their quiche is out of this world. The filling is a nice mix of salmon and spinach for a very well balanced meal. The salad served alongside breakfast is great as well. The leaves are super fresh and it must be the start of tomato season, because the cherry tomatoes were packed with flavor. It barely needed the delicious balsamic vinaigrette.

RAC

RAC is the second coming of Far West and as such, has many of the menu items we have been missing since the latter restaurant closed down last year. They have crepes and galettes plus a few other wonderful breakfast (or all day) menu items.

Far West (RMB 98)

One of our favorites is this buckwheat gazette with earthy mushrooms, salty pancetta, a perfect runny egg and lots of cheese. It has everything we love on it.

Avocado, egg and cheese sandwich (RMB 55)

If you are in the mood for a breakfast sandwich, this is one decadent and messy morning meal. The buttery bun is filled with plenty of creamy avocado with a runny egg, sharp cheddar and a touch of hot sauce. There is nothing to complain about here.
