How To Use Hema Grocery Delivery

2018-03-12 Dan Ren ShanghaiWOWeng

If you enjoy fast delivery services like Eleme, chances are you'll also love a grocery delivery service called Hema. This app/service claims they will deliver your daily groceries within 30 minutes of ordering (as long as you are located within 3km of one of their stores), and the first order every day is free of delivery charge. How cool is that?

What’s Hema?

Hema is a grocery service and supermarket owned and operated by Alibaba. You can also forego the delivery service to visit their physical store, but be advised: If you want to purchase something, the only payment options there are Alipay and the Hema App. They don't take cash or cards.

There are 16 Hema stores in Shanghai so far, located all over in many districts, so it should be easy to find one near your house. But if you don’t feel like going out for your daily grocery, why not try out their delivery service? Here's how...

How to use Hema App

Step 1. Search '盒马' (or simply 'Hema') in the App Store and download the App.

If you already have a Taobao account, you can log in very fast through the Taobao App on your phone. It’s also easy to sign up with your phone number.

Step 2. Put things in your cart.

The category of goods is very clear. Even if you don’t understand Chinese at all, it’s easy to find the things you need by browsing through photos. They have everything you'd expect from a normal supermarket, from fresh fruit to organic vegetables, fresh seafood and meats, imported cheeses, bakery items, liquor... You can order EVERYTHING on Hema App.

According to Hema, prices of their goods are, on average, 10% cheaper than the market price. This is because they order their products directly from farms and farmers.

Step 3. Check out and set delivery time.

After finishing your checklist, hit the blue button and go to the next step. Fill in your address, then pick a delivery time that suits you.

The delivery time of Hema is from 8am to 9pm but if you put the order too late, you might have to wait until the next day to get your order.

Like their actual stores, the payment method on the App is Alipay only as well.

You can check your order status after paying.

And that’s how you order grocery on Hema. It’s a high-quality and trustworthy service that everyone in Shanghai should try out! If you can't read Chinese characters it's still totally possible to register and use the service, but of course it might help if you have a friend who can read Chinese to help you get set up.
