Did you know that by eating a plant-based diet for one day, you can save 3300 gallons of water, prevent 60 pounds by weight of carbon dioxide being released into the air, save 90 sq ft of forest land and most importantly, save 3 animal lives? The public is more aware of these facts than ever before given all the recent awareness programs set up by local vegan advocacy organizations. The vegan menu here is currently hailed as the poster child for Vegans of Shanghai restaurant outreach efforts. It includes over 30 items, with appetizers, main courses and even their own in-house made, coconut chocolate ice-cream! The latest addition to their fancy menu is their ‘Roasted Cauliflower w. Pickled Mushrooms, Avocado Salsa Verde and Truffle mist’. Very Sexy stuff.

There is no other place in Shanghai that serves true Whole Foods plant-based meals like this restaurant, which offers some of the best vegan desserts in the city AND are currently expanding their vegan menu twofold! If you plan to visit Tribe, make sure you check their weekday discounts on certain food items.

Super-chill vegan-friendly café-car that you can work from on weekends. Their vegan hot dogs with fries are pretty reasonably priced. If you are looking for something to grab that is not too heavy on your stomach or pocket, then this is the place to go to.

Falafel, hummus, wine leaves, french fries, tahini, taboule...this place is a Mediterranean haven. And the best part is, they are affordable. Dining in wouldn’t be the best option as the place is cozy and meant for a quick bite. However, you will find yourself ordering plenty, so be prepared to have a feast.

The ambiance here is to die for – cozy yet comfortable, bright yet calm, prompt service and amazing WiFi connection. The cashew milk coffee is perhaps the best in the district. There are not many vegan options to choose from [not yet] but they host many vegan pop-ups, so definitely becoming one of our favorites.

Hidden in the basement, is this gem of a vegan-friendly location. They do not serve anything with meat, though. They have quite a number retail products that are vegan too. Definitely a must to visit at least once a month.

A Japanese place that has plenty of vegan options. It is also popular for their lunchtime curry options. Also, a good place for late night drinks. They are also planning to expand their plant-based options further to serve the vegan community!

This may come as a shock, but this famous-for-affordable-drinks joint has amazing vegan food! It should come as no surprise that they are now offering more and more eco-conscious foods. They are one of the few F&B outlets that has a collection point for “used clothing donations”. Very happy that they are part of our movement.

Perhaps the only Indonesian place that serves this insanely gorgeous tempeh dishes, laced with mind-blowing spices. They bear a full-fledged vegan menu as well and are regular participants in almost all of the big vegan events.

This is the sister kitchen of Biofarm. Biofarm is a farm-consumer type, vegetables provided, that is mainly organic. So by default whatever you eat at Dalah is completely organic and pesticide free. They have amazing lunch deals that is worth checking out. PS: the kitchen is on a farm, so it is a bit far from the city center. Plant your trip a day in advance.

This has become the household name for vegan comfort food in the city. Vegan panini, Pesto Pasta, Chocolate cake, Double layer nachos are some of the popular items. They also use plenty of their own in-house seitan in their dishes, which is the best meat substitute this town has to offer. Check them out for sure.

If the name is not self-explanatory, then we shall spell it out for you. This joint is a transitioning vegan’s dream come true. They have a substitute for every animal product you can think. Scariest and almost “tastes too real” would be their vegan egg dishes. The egg yolk substitute is actually made with mung beans! Mind-blowing stuff!

This is a dream come true. They are complete plant-based café, with several flavors of coffee, numerous types of cakes and bread and delicious lunch and dinner sets. Perhaps the most affordable one in the city as well. The only downside is that this is also a bit far from the center of the city. A trip worth making to and spending your work-from-home day. Excellent service, excellent wifi, 100% vegan food.
