Healthy Neighborhood Guide: Huangpu

2018-03-23 Cristina Ng ShanghaiWOWeng

It’s time for another installment of our Healthy Neighborhood Guides. Immediately after we posted the Jing’an guide, we received requests from Shanghai residents clamoring for us to feature their own neighborhood. That’s why we have put together this healthy neighborhood guide for no-brainer gym and restaurant pairings for Huangpu District.  Read on for more info.

Work Out @ Body Blacksmith

Fans of Coach Maurad have been eagerly awaiting the opening of Body Blacksmith. Classes run the gamut from HIIT to Acroyoga with an emphasis on athleticism and variety. No matter which class you take, expect to be challenged. Grand opening is this Sunday, March 25, 2018.

Specialty: Athletic-Based Group Classes, HIIT, Core, Acro Flow, Multiple Disciplines

Address: 5/F, 41 Yongjia Lu

Tel: 15121082320

Drop In: RMB 88 until 7/4/2018; soft opening price

Eat @ Happy Buddha

Game Changer veggie burger (RMB 58)

Just like Body Blacksmith, Happy Buddha straddles the line between Huangpu and Xuhui districts. That’s not the important thing though. The important thing is the variety of vegan options they have for you to refuel after that difficult class. We recommend the quinoa chili or zucchini lasagna, but if you need vegan comfort food, get that veggie burger.

Eat @ Little Creatures

Roasted cauliflower, chickpea & arugula salad (RMB 85)

Perhaps a gastropub isn’t the first place you would think to go to post-gym, but they do have a great salad loaded with plenty of fiber and plant-based protein. Cauliflower has magnesium, phosphorus and potassium to help replenish and repair your body, and their coconut-based dressing helps it go down easy.

Eat @ Sproutworks

Sproutworks’ healthy sides (RMB 35/2 sides, RMB 60/4 sides, RMB 90/6 sides)

You can’t really go wrong with the options available at Sproutworks. We like to go with a healthy side combo for maximum variety. Another good option is to get half a salad with an order of protein. The pork and tofu are two of our favorite proteins.

Work Out @ STUD Crossfit

We have long been fans of Hunter Gatherer’s build-your-own-bowl concept and find it even easier now that they give you more guidance. By allowing you to choose your base, you can customize your dish to fit your macros. We can’t wait to try some of their new spring additions such as oven-baked asparagus fries and spring roll bowl.
