Here's What to See, Eat and Do in Yong Ping Lane
Yong Ping Lane is one of Shanghai’s newer bar and restaurant hot spots, with more great places to get fat and drunk than you can possibly shake a stick at. But with the hustle and bustles of businesses opening their doors every single day in Shanghai, it can be hard to remember what’s where. Here is our guide to Yong Ping Lane and all of its various businesses.
There are two entrances to Yong Ping Lane, one on Hengshan Lu and one on Yong Jia Lu.
Address: 191-199 Hengshan Lu
Address: 692-698 Yongjia Lu
Yong Ping ‘Lane’ is actually a misnomer as it’s more of a series of connected courtyards featuring slightly bizarre but interesting pieces of public art. I had heard of this kind of art once before being described as 'plonk art'... Whatever it is, I like it.
Especially this guy….
There are tons of different venues ranging from flower shops and restaurants to art galleries and more restaurants than you could eat at in a month. (unless you’re really hungry.)
Joyce Flower
Hours: Daily, 9am-9pm
Joyce Flower is a boutique flower shop selling fresh cut bouquets and living plants, as well as a few quirky homeware pieces.
To art galleries…
Galerie Dumonteil
Hours: Tue-Sat, 11am-7pm
Tel: 021 6418 6367
Gallerie Dumonteil is an art establishment with galleries in New York, Paris and Shanghai. Although shopping here might just blow your brunch budget, it is worth taking a peak around.
Co-working spaces…
CommBiz
Hours:Daily, 10am-10pm
Tel: 021 6445 8358
As the new co-working space in town, CommBiz has a more ‘grown-up’ vibe than a lot of the other co-working spaces around. Here you'll find a large communal area and good smaller offices, not to mention a pretty amazing restaurant that’s open to all.
And restaurants and bars…
Crafted by Bistro Burger

Opened by The Bistro Burger people, this restaurant is less burger and more bistro. The large outdoor seating area makes it a spring dream. The portions are large and the drinks are great.
Colca

Colca is our favorite Peruvian spot in town. The ceviche is not to be missed and comes in several different varieties. They have a big terrace area that is going to be amazing this spring. Book in advance if you want a table for dinner.
STYX

Tel: 021 5401 9356, 138 1841 2181
This restaurant has some serious flair: imagine street BBQ, but clean and delicious with a tropical vibe. It’s fusion skewers with a French/Singaporean/Bali vibe.
KRU
Hours: Daily, 11:30am-2am
Tel: 021 5456 5913
KRU is a light and airy wine bar with a chilled out vibe in the centre of the main Yong Ping Lane square. It has a more casual vibe than most wine bars, but don’t let that affect your judgment of the wines and light bites they serve here, which are both excellent.
Garlic
Hours: Mon-Fri, 6pm-11pm; Sat-Sun, 12pm-12am
Tel: 021 5424 3332
Garlic is a Turkish restaurant that should seriously be on your radar if it wasn't already. little more upmarket than your usual Turkish eatery, with smart white tablecloths and a family orientated vibe.
Qimin Organic Hot Pot Market

Tel: 021 6466 5912
A high brow hotpot restaurant serving the highest quality of meats and vegetables, all of which are organic. A good place to visit if you want the fun of a hotpot dinner without the stomach ache that can often follow.
The Shanghailander Bar and cafe
Hours: Daily, 9am-10pm
Tel: 136 0192 4664
The Shanghailander Wine Café is the perfect spot if you’re looking for a new favorite coffee shop. Head over one morning to grab a cup of coffee and a croissant and then come back in the evening to indulge yourself with any of their amazing wines.
And a Bakery…
Madeline
Hours: Daily, 8am-8pm

Madeleine is a French bakery that makes delicious fresh bread and pastries. I recommend their opera cakes!
Yong Ping Lane has essentially everything a sophisticated (wo)man about town could ever need, so next time you have a free afternoon, head down there and check it out!
