8 Dog-Friendly Bars We Love

2018-03-31 Anu ShanghaiWOWeng

Shanghai has more bars than parks that welcome dogs – true story.

For dog owners in Shanghai – especially those who are new dog parents – it can be a struggle to take their pet anywhere, not knowing if the spot they intend to go allows dogs or not. And because we agree that it sucks to keep your furry friend at home while you are out meeting friends over casual drinks.  We’ve picked out our favorite bars in Shanghai where you and your best friend are welcome for a good time! We have also added a longer list at the bottom, so take your pick!

Moka Bros

Address: 108 Xiangyang Bei Lu

Hours: Sun-Thu, 11am-10:30pm, Fri-Sat, 11am-11:30pm

Tel: 021 5208 6079

Spacious, trendy and great for healthy brunches, this one 42 30272 42 12965 0 0 8089 0 0:00:03 0:00:01 0:00:02 8087 has a lot of space for you and your beloved dog. One thing though, they do have a sign outside inviting in only ‘polite dogs,’ so it’s up to the owner to decide whether or not to give it a go. If your dog is peace-loving and doesn’t lash out at humans, this would be a good spot where you can grab some nutritious power bowls.

Charlie’s

Address: 89 Changshu Lu

Hours: Mon-Fri, 11am-10:30pm, Sat&Sun, 11am-11:30pm

Tel: 021 5403 8513

This takes the top spot any day. They have multiple branches now, and each space is designed to accommodate lots of dogs. They make their famous, unseasoned Woof Patty, a lightly fried beef patty that four-legged patrons love! They also make yummy-looking cookies and special ice cream that is super cute.

The Rooster

Address: 455 Shaanxi Bei Lu

Hours: Sun-Thu, 11am-12am, Fri-Sat, 11am-1am

Tel: 156 1880 8692

This one is an old favorite. They love dogs so much that they regularly hold special events to encourage more bar hopping where dogs get free water and treats while you grab some IPA. They might throw in free hot dogs for humans too, and that’s cool.

Ola

Address: 1105 Wuding Lu

Hours: Sun-Thur, 11am-12am, Fri-Sat, 11am-2am

Tel: 021 5276 2772

This spot on Wuding road welcomes dogs both inside and outside on their patio. We prefer the patio for the summer as it’s perfect for people (and dog) watching. They serve Portuguese and other European inspired food and really good beers. Your pet is likely to be greeted by lots of humans who frequent this spot.

Marienbad Café

Address: 55 Wukang Lu

Hours: Daily, 9am-12am

Tel: 021 5404 2909

This place has been around for a long time, probably because their quality standards are pretty consistent. They love dogs, and their little balcony out front (as well as the quiet spot at the back across the restaurant) makes it perfect to enjoy a good meal while spending some quality time with your pooch by your side.

Alimentari

Location: 158 Anfu Lu

Hours: Daily, 8am - 12am

Tel: 021 5403 6991

Further along down the street on Anfu is one of the most pleasant places to take your dog to. What used to be Feidan is now a posher wine and cheese spot. Their outdoor seating invites many dog owners and dog lovers so that you and your pet can socialize over some good wine and cold cuts. The staff loves dogs, and sometimes they even hand out chunks of quality meats so your dog is a repeat customer.

Cozy Wine Bar

Address: 97 Wukang Lu, near Wuyuan Lu

Hours: Daily, 11am-12am

Tel: 021 5497 8969

This is a really cute street-corner spot that just got even cuter after undergoing recent renovations. With a small patio and a tidy layout inside, this makes for a perfect spot for breakfast (very good coffee) or wine with your dog. The street-side is quiet and shady, making it quite relaxing.

Daliah

Address: 408 Shaanxi Bei Lu, near Beijing Xi Lu

Hours: Mon-Fri, 11am-midnight, Sat&Sun, 11am-10.30pm

Tel: 021 6288 8773

Best thing about this place? Their awesome quirky indoor slide! Take your doggo here for a treat and put them on the slide. Also good coffee and a delightful brunch menu.

*Side note: Surprisingly, Munchies (it’s right next to a fancy pet store) and the city’s bar mecca Found 158 do not allow dogs. Hopefully this will change soon. Or maybe it won’t.

**Other dog friendly bars you can check out include: Tres Perros, Abbey Road (outside only), Boom Boom Bagels, Boxing Cat Brewery, Daga Brew Pub (downstairs only), Le Vin, Cantona Bar, Cotton’s, La Vite, La Petanque, Jarajam, Al’s Diner, Kaiba Tap House, Bites and Brews.
