L.A. Pho is a MUST-TRY

2018-04-02 ShanghaiWOWeng

If you’re a big fan of pho, you really need to start spending more time at L.A. Pho. With 5 locations around Shanghai, it’s one of the most popular Vietnamese chains around, even boasting former U.S. Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton as fans.

The Bestselling Pho

Signature Vietnamese Pho

This is the signature pho dish that has taken the entire world by storm. It contains large slices of raw beef, beef tendons, and fresh soup made by boiling beef bones for 6 hours. The beef used is all from Australia.

Sriracha hot chili sauce

Most importantly, you must not forget the secret ingredient - sriracha hot chili sauce, which takes the dish to the next level! A little hint of spice in combination with sweet flavors is a rare find, but it’s so worth it!

Hot and Sour Pho

The boss of this place knows how well sriracha goes with pho, so he created a dish called “Hot and Sour Pho” to make sure everyone gets to try it. The taste of hot and sour is strangely addictive.

This dish utilizes all the raw beef and beef tendons used in regular pho, but the key is that it’s cooked in a hot and sour soup.

Unique and Innovative Vietnamese Cuisine

The K11 branch, aka the flagship store, has moved from B2 to the 4th floor. They’ve launched more than 10 completely unique dishes that are exclusive to K11! You can go along and order three dishes to try.

Steamed Mandarin Fish in Lemon Fish SauceExclusive to K11)

This steamed mandarin fish in lemon fish sauce is said to make you look at fish in a whole new light. It manages to be both cool and moist, fresh and fragrant, and soft and tender all at the same time.

You can pick about 500g worth of mandarin fish. The Vietnamese style of cooking fish makes it look fresh and smooth. It also has a hint of that delicious hot and spicy flavor to it, which makes it smell fantastic.

Home-style Stir-fried Spicy Beef(Exclusive to K11)

This is Vietnamese home cooking at its finest, but it still manages to take on a new and innovative air. It incorporates Australian beef and a variety of spices, making it smell absolutely divine.

The Australian beef fillet is braised in a sauce and stir-fried, which gets marginally spicier as you eat it.

Chicken Wrapped in Lotus Leaves(Exclusive to K11)

If you like chicken but you want to try something a little different, this is exactly what you’re looking for.

Before you devour the entire thing, make sure you dip it in the special sauce made by the chef.

Vietnamese Beef Curry with French Bread

This is yet another dish cooked with completely innovative ingredients and style! It’s beef curry paired with French bread, a combination rarely done but that works so well.

It incorporates Vietnamese curry seasoning, which is mildly spicy and soft, fresh beef brisket. The bread is original wheat bread from France, which almost tastes a little spicy alongside the curry.

Authentic and Familiar Vietnamese Side Dishes

You might not recognize all of these Vietnamese dishes, but we guarantee you’ll like them nonetheless.

Minced Pork Wrapped in Lettuce

The pork is fried in Vietnamese spices and then wrapped in fresh lettuce, and quite a bit of oil.

These little chunks of pork mixed with all the chili pepper is just the right amount of spicy.

Signature Vietnamese Fried Spring Rolls

The skin of the spring roll is lovely and crispy, so you’ll feel a super satisfying “crunch” every time you take a bite, followed by an explosion of flavors.

Inside you can find dried shrimp, vermicelli noodles, carrot and taro.

They pair perfectly with the sweet and sour fish sauce.

Vietnamese Beverages

Traditional Vietnamese Drip Coffee

This is very traditional Vietnamese drip coffee. You watch the coffee being made drop by drop as it slowly drips into the small cup of condensed milk below.

Instead of adding the usual creamer and sugar into your coffee, it’s actually made by dripping directly into sweet condensed milk. You can mix it with a spoon to adjust it to your taste.

Vietnamese Flower Tea

If you’re not a coffee person, flower tea or green tea is also a great choice.

You can get rose, vanilla and jasmine flower teas.

There’s no way we can forget to mention the almond biscuits that come on the side. They’re also very unique with sweet and soft icing on the outside, and crispy layers on the inside.

Retro Atmosphere

L.A. Pho is easily one of the most popular Vietnamese restaurants in Shanghai, which means that back when it was on B2/F of K11, you almost always had to queue to get a table. But now they’ve moved up to the 4th floor with a lot more space, and the decor is a lot nicer too.

There are bamboo lampshades, neat countertops and warm yellow lights to make the place look fresh and natural.
