5 Specialty Streets You Should Know About
We’ve written about a couple of these before, but it’s always worth pointing out some of Shanghai’s more interesting streets. From art supplies to hair clippers, there are some weird ones out there. Here are five you should know.
Fuzhou Lu
Art Stuff
Fuzhou Lu has a lot going for it, from bookstores to art deco architecture, but we really appreciate the range of art supply stores. From markers to paint, canvases, clay… whatever, Fuzhou Lu has you covered.
Guangxi Lu
Hair care stuff
Yep, there’s a hair supply street here. Just south of people’s square, near Raffle’s City, you can find the short strip at the corner of Gangxi and Guangdong Lu that sells every hair-product-related item you can think of. Clippers, beard trimmers, blow dryers, dyes... if it's hair-related, chances are they've got it somewhere.
Jinling Lu
Instruments
This street seems to be going through some hard times lately, but it was once lined in every direction with stores selling guitars, pianos and every other instrument you can think of. Enough of these stores remain to make it interesting, but many have closed over the last couple of years.

Rumors have been swirling that this street is set for a shutdown, and while we hope it isn’t true, we still advise you to go check out this late night strip ASAP just in case.
Qipu Lu
Cheap clothing
Ah Qipu Lu, the epicenter of bizarre fashion in Shanghai. If you’ve ever seen a weird shirt, jeans, shoes, headband, any clothing item, chances are it came from somewhere along Qipu Lu.
