Disney's 'Toy Story Land' Opening This Month

2018-04-13 ShanghaiWOWeng

Imagine being shrunk down to the size of your favorite toy and given the chance to explore the magical backyard of Woody’s best human friend - how fun would that be?! Well, imagine no more: Shanghai Disneyland is turning childhood dreams into reality with their new Toy Story Land!

Disneyland Pixar Toy Story Land is officially scheduled to open at 1pm on Thursday, April 26!

Fortunate enough to be invited into this immersive, high-spirited and colorful experience, we were all mesmerized the minute we walked through the gates. Here, you will find attractions that your younger self could have only dreamed of: a Hot Wheels-inspired racing car roller coaster, our good old pal Slink the dog chasing his own tale, and real-life versions of Woody, Buzz and the Green Army soldiers!

And if you feel like taking a short break during playtime, there are plenty of seats around the park for you to rest on.

Here’s a preview of what the new, magical Toy Story Land at Shanghai Disneyland has in store for you (pun intended).

Toy Box Cafe

Once you’ve entered the park, keep on walking straight until you reach the imaginatively-themed Toy Box Café that was made out of the packaging once home to Buzz Lightyear, Lotso Bear, and the usually bad-tempered Mr. Potato Head who, ironically, greets you in rather good humor.

“New toys! Welcome to Andy’s backyard!”

You’ll need plenty of energy to enjoy your time at Toy Story Land to the fullest, so make sure to fill up on some of the cafe’s traditional dishes and treats. From stew, curry, BBQ and pizzas to ice creams and other delicious desserts, there’s plenty to choose from here!

They even go as far as paying homage to some of our beloved toys from the film series by offering character-shaped food options that include a three-eyed Spicy Alien Seafood Pizza, and a Bubble Waffle with Strawberry ice cream inspired by Lotso Hugging Bear’s signature strawberry scent. It’s soft, creamy and, of course, very cute.

And if you’re feeling reaaaally hungry, you’re in luck: the portions served for some of the main dishes are huge!

Once you’ve placed your order, pick any of the 558 colorful seats available in the shade to enjoy your meal, where you can appreciate a detailed attention to the design of the dining area. And if you look at the jigsaw wall next to the restaurant close enough, you will notice that Lotso is missing.

Go and find out where he’s hiding!

Slinky Dog Spin

It’s time to give your old pal Slink a visit! Go and sit inside one of Slinky Dog’s spirals as he relentlessly chases his tail around a wavy roundabout. Expect a bouncy ride packed with loads of fun!

Before you get on, the staff will give you a bone-shaped card that will serve perfectly as your photo prop.

This video was shot by professionals, and visitors should not attempt to copy it. You must remain seated for the duration of the ride. The use of phones and other recording devices is strictly prohibited.

Rex’s Racers

Andy’s funny and often-insecure dinosaur toy Rex has a very exciting game for you try… Described as an “enhanced version of the classic pirate ship ride”, this exhilarating attraction will have you scream at the top of your lungs as it zips you back and forth, higher and higher, on its U-shaped track that stretches over 30 meters long.

It’s already expected to become more popular than the Tron Lightcycle Power Run, and if you’re brave enough to keep your eyes open the whole time, you can enjoy a gorgeous view of the entire park once you hit the highest point of the ride!

Woody’s Round-Up

Mornin’, Sheriff!

Our favorite floppy, pull-string cowboy Woody has rounded up a herd of 22 ponies to take you on a wild ride around town. Not only do they have their own names, but their hair smells as if they were real! This immersive experience is brilliantly executed.

So go ahead and pick your own pony for a nice little wander.

Friendly Station and Soldiers’ Toilet

Say hi to Woody and the Green Army soldiers!

It wouldn’t be a proper Toy Story experience without a friendly chit chat and some picture time with some of the franchise’s characters. But as you can expect, Woody’s a busy sheriff with a lot on his plate, so make sure to check his schedule for an available time slot.

Green Army soldiers will also be climbing down the gate to come and greet you. Ask the staff for more information on live performance schedules.

Al’s Toy Barn

After a long day of eating and running around, take a break and browse the collection of souvenirs available at Al’s, the famous merchandise shop where some of Andy’s beloved toys were originally purchased.

While there are over 100 toys to choose from and take home with you, our favorite was a version of Woody that clings to your arms, but you can opt for Buzz Lightyear as well.

There’s also a whole wall dedicated entirely to Lotso Hugging Bear where you can find plenty of cuddly toys, t-shirts, and accessories like key rings.

The staff here are very helpful, and can help demonstrate how to operate the toys you’re interested in.

And don’t forget to buy costumes for the whole family before you head out! Now is the time to start planning this year’s Halloween cosplay. Buzz Lightyear, anyone?
