5 Classic Running Routes For Spring Training

2018-04-25 ShanghaiWOWeng

With a three-day weekend coming up, it's the perfect time to get out there and do some exercise! Here's the lowdown on some of the better running routes you can find in the city:

Century Park

Distance: 5km

With wide open spaces, beautiful blooms throughout the year, a lake and views of the surrounding city (although you'd probably prefer to just look at the lake), Century Park in Pudong is a great place to go for a run.

The outer ring is around 5km, but there are lots of paths going all over if you want to create your own route. Don't forget: you'll need RMB 10 for the entrance fee, and the park is open between 7am and 6pm.

Nearest Metro: Century Park / Shanghai Science and Technology Museum

Huangpu Park to Luxun Park

Distance: 6km

This one starts in one park and ends in another. Start at Huangpu Park near the Bund then run along Suzhou creek before heading north on Sichuan Road and veering past the pedestrianized cultural area of Duolun Road Cultural Celebrities Street.

You will eventually reach Luxun Park, which is one of the city's oldest and most picturesque gardens, featuring a lake and several bridges.

Nearest Metro: East Nanjing Road / Hongkou Football Stadium

Xuhui Riverside

Distance: 7km

Probably one of the best routes in the city, the Xuhui Riverside is great for an uninterrupted run or walk – there is even a specialized running path. You can choose how far you want to run along the route – going all the way up and back is around 7km in total.

It's an interesting path too, with views of boats along the river and cargo cranes, a fairly difficult climbing wall, basketball courts and a skate park.

Nearest Metro: Longhua Road / Longhua Middle Road

Suzhou Creek

Distance: 7.5km

Lots of options here to wind your way up or down the creek. A good one would be to start at Zhengping Road Station and drop down by Mengqing Park through the Moganshan Art District, and then continue along the north side of the river until you reach Henan Road. If you still have some energy left you can go even further to the Bund.

Be warned: this is not a straightforward option like in a park, and there has been some construction work going on around the north side recently.

Nearest Metro: Zhengping Road / Tiantong Road

Pudong Riverside

Distance: 12km

For a longer run and more views of the river, you can head over to the Pudong side of the city. Part of this route was used for the women's half marathon last year.

Starting from the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, jog through Binjiang Park and Bailianjing Park, past the World Expo site, and you will end up at the Oriental Sports Center.

Nearest Metro: Lujiazui / Oriental Sports Center
