Witness the Revival of Wukang Lu

Following the permanent closure of Farine and WIYF, it appeared that Wukang Lu was destined to take a backseat and become a fading memory. But fear not, as the area remains very much alive thanks to the rising popularity of several establishments that have lured locals and expats back into the neighborhood.




To give you a taste of its latest appeal, the much talked-about Japanese cafe % Arabica hailing from Kyoto is announced to set up shop within the Ferguson Lane complex, while the beloved 8-year-old Cottage Cafe is finally making a comeback at the Wukang Mansion this weekend following a year-long hiatus!




Although these two cafes alone are expected to bring a lot of hype back into the community, there are more exciting venues to explore along this beautiful streets that stretches over 1 kilometer long and makes for the perfect outdoor photoshoot.




Aside from trendy cafes, Wukang Lu also brings a lot of history with cultural landmarks that include the former residence of Chinese author Ba Jin and the memorial of political figure Soong Ching-ling.


The Cottage Cafe





Officially re-opened on January 28th, The Cottage Cafe was missed by its herd of loyal customers and now boasts a store design rumored to be similar to the old one. A visit to this cafe offers a memorable getaway to the streets of Europe, with delectable dishes and beverages as well as a charming setting that are set to create an old Western feel to the experience.

Drop Coffee Studio




Drop is a small cafe that uses a MUJI-inspired interior design from Japan with a French flair; an ideal hangout spot to spend quality time with yourself or friends on a great sunny day. And while you’re at it, treat yourself with a slice of their early grey crepe cake to go along your flat white.




Their friendly baristas are trained to tailor your drinks to your coffee preferences, all within a comfortable space that makes for the perfect remote office to work out of.

Fancy Fruit + SmoothieBowl




What once stood as a simple juice stand has transformed into a popular smoothie bowl shop in Old Xuhui. Their wide variety of bowls comes with delicious nuts and slices of fruits to help you get your healthy snack fix.

Douce Mansion




Situated at the corner of Anfu Lu and Wukang Lu, you will find a beautiful white French bungalow behind which lies Douce Mansion, a new lifestyle experiential space where long tables decorated with linen cotton tablecloths and ceramic kitchenware contribute to the creation of a very elegant setting. 




Expect to find clothing items and other home accessories from all over the world, all of which are available for sale, and while lodging here may be a far-fetched dream for some, anyone can enjoy their forest-themed afternoon tea set.

Dongxin Restaurant




This Shanghainese restaurant is mostly known for its mouth-watering wontons, with their Yangzhou sea bass-flavored wontons sitting at the top of the must-try list. 




You can also find a small food stand on the side of the building that serves ice cream in the summer and stuffed beef buns in the winter which, one should note, are fairly oily.

RAC Coffee




One of the latest popular kids on the block is RAC Coffee, a wood-themed cafe on the corner of Anfu Lu and Wukang Lu, which many residents notably visit for their Insta-worthy photos and coffee (particularly appreciated by expats and tourists). 




In addition to their coffee stand, RAC also serves food and drinks at their back-alley restaurant, which also includes limited-serving ice cream on weekends whenever the city warms up.

Catie Lo




As a small fashion boutique, Catie Lo boasts a wide collection of clothing items and other vintage accessories with styles that range between quirky and elegant, all of which are carefully selected by Catie herself.

PISTACCHIO Ristorante & Bar




Named after the “happy nut”, this Italian restaurant is best reputed for their authentic North Italian cuisine that incorporates cooking methods from the nearby regions of Provence and the Mediterranean in Southern France and Italy. This, in turn, has led to the creation of innovative and appetizing dishes, the most notable of which is the Soufflé with pistachio, chocolate and Curaçao (liqueur) flavors.

Côté




Known for their thin-crust pizza, A Cote is a gem guaranteed to leave you satisfied once you’ve paired your dish with a refreshing glass of wine or iced cup of coffee on a warm sunny day. Feel free to add a light salad to your meal for a healthy treat.

Coffee Tree




With a terrace that soaks up any sunlight that shines through Ferguson Lane, no wonder Coffee Tree quickly became a popular brunch spot for hungry residents from all walks of life on weekends. Their menu lists a wide variety of dishes from Europe, which you can enjoy with a cup of their signature latte while getting your tan on, if desired.

Coconut Paradise




Located on the second floor of Ferguson Lane, the new branch of the Southeast Asian/Thai restaurant differs slightly in its design from the other location on Fumin Lu, with a modern Thai-inspired menu and a lovely al fresco setting.


Azul Tapas & Lounge




This restaurant brings the delicacies and traditions from South America straight to your table within a brand new clean-cut interior that just recently underwent renovations. The manager of this venue hails from Peru, and leads a talented kitchen that serves toothsome dishes that include Argentinian steak, fresh lab shanks, paella, and more. Diners lucky enough to claim a seat outside can enjoy a wonderful view of the city from the terrace.
