4 Ways to Get More Creative This Spring

2018-04-30 Claire L. Squire ShanghaiWOWeng

If the spring breeze has brought with it the air of creativity, but you find yourself scratching your head and unsure how to utilize it, then scratch no more! We have four great ways to get more creative this spring.

1. Drink wine and paint stuff

If you’ve always fancied yourself as a bit of a painter, head to Sip n’ Paint. It’s a chilled out art class where you have a glass of wine and have a crack at painting things. It’s good fun, it’s not too serious and it’s suited to people of all abilities.

2. Join a book club

There are plenty of book clubs around the city that you can get involved with. A big one is the Girls Gone International (GGI) book club, you can find their events on meetup.com. Many book clubs are run by small groups of people, so start asking around. If you can’t find one, start your own!

3. Write a short story

The Shanghai Literary Review (TSLR) is a biannually published magazine that showcases some of Shanghai’s most creative minds. So get your pen to paper and get your submissions in. They also have regular events (open-mics and book clubs) all over the city where you can get together with like-minded people and mingle.

4. Go to a storytelling event

Unravel is a regular storytelling event where Shanghaiers get on stage to tell a story around a theme. These are stories from their lives. It’s an interesting, diverse and often eye-opening event that makes you consider how you see the world around you.

Editor’s Note: TSLR and Unravel will be hosting an event together on May 24! Details forthcoming online.
