Beat the Heat: 8 Coldest Places in Shanghai

Shanghai issued its first heat wave alert of the year this week, and we are definitely feeling the heat. If you find yourself in need of a serious cooldown, here are some of the city’s coolest places you can find, literally:


Winter Wonderland


Some super cool places to get your skate on. 


Feiyang Skating Center



Address: 201 Yunlian Lu, Pudong

Hours: Mon-Fri, 7pm-9pm; Sat-Sun, 10am-9pm

Price: Weekday evening: RMB 30


This is the only skating center in Shanghai that has double the ice. The lower arena is a practicing rink, which is 1000sqm. You can skate for free during their opening hours, and even watch the ice hockey games. The upper arena is Olympic standard, with an 1800sqm rink that is for seasoned skaters only.


All Star Ice Skating Club



Address: Mercedes Benz Arena B2,1200 Shibo Da Dao, Pudong

Hours: Mon-Fri, 10am-9:30pm; Sat-Sun, 10am-8:30pm

Price: RMB 50-80/90min


All Star is an enormous, iconic indoor ice skating rink and quite possibly one of the nicest. With 1200sqm, this is where you need to go if you want to twist, turn and carve out some slick moves on the ice. All ages are welcome to free skate with training aids, or take part in programs taught by experts - helping you stay cool, fit and providing a great escape from Shanghai's summer heat.


Champion Rink



Address: 7/F, Bailian New Era Mall, 8 Songhu Lu, Yangpu District

Hours: Mon-Fri 10am-9pm, Sat&Sun 2pm-9pm

Price: RMB 55/2hours (including equipment rental)


Champion was the first chain skating rink in China, and comes in at aruond 800sqm. Here you can skate the day away with friends for a decent price. If you get sick of falling on your butt, simply hop back into the mall's shopping area to grab a bite to eat or do some shopping as a reward for doing something active with your day instead of sweating on your couch.

K11 Shopping Art Museum

Address: No. 300 Huaihai Zhong Lu, K11


This skyscraper and shopping mall was the first original brand to pioneer the blend of three essential elements: art, people and nature. It’s an art playground where culture, entertainment, shopping and lifestyle revolves around forming new ideas and new inspirations. Keep cool by heading over to check out the House and Universe exhibition in their art space (on until June 17th), or settling down to an iced coffee as a quick pick-me-up.

 

Xintiandi Style


 

Average Temperature: 24.6℃

Address: No. 245 Madang Lu, Huangpu district


Head to the swanky Xintiandi area and dive right into the cool interiors of yet another luxury mall. With the latest goods and fashion from all over the world, you can get yourself kitted out with big-name labels or grab a bowl of fresh poke at Little Catch to help you cool down.


Jing’an Kerry Centre



Average Temperature: 22.9℃

Address: No. 1515 Nanjing Xi Lu, Jingan district


Fusing the neighborhood’s historic character with the creativity of modern Shanghai, Jing’an Kerry Centre is a great option if you’re in the area and needing a quick AC break! Pause for a coffee at Costa, grab a new pair of sunnies to battle the sunshine or grab a bite at any of the shopping mall’s eateries and you’ll be ready to brave the day again in no time.


HKRI Taikoo Hui



Average Temperature: 22.1℃

Address: No. 789 Nanjing West Road

You can shop ‘til you drop in a variety of stores ranging in products like fashion, beauty and accessories to lifestyle and dining. Do your grocery shopping in a huge city’super, hop across to the Starbucks Reserve Roastery to get your caffeine fix or dine in one of their 45 eateries to keep those energy levels up.
