How to get there: You can take the metro Line 12 to Aiguo Road and then it’s a five-minute walk. Or you can take a DiDi from downtown, and it will be RMB 50-60

Address: Room 201, 2/F, Area 4, The River Mall, 168 Shangnan Lu

Tel: 3107 5003

Yes, you read that correctly. A teddy bear museum. That’s an entire museum dedicated to teddy bears. There seems to be no real theme to this museum, it’s like bears through the ages, and bears dressed up as notable people from various points of history.

It’s totally weird and a little bit freaky. This museum opened in Shanghai to rival the famous teddy bear museum in Chengdu, which is the biggest in the world … What a claim to fame.

It’s an interesting place and well worth a visit if you find yourself at a loose end one afternoon.

Fake Paris

If you can’t afford a romantic weekend in Paris, then fake Paris in Zhejiang province might be just up your alley. Construction at Tianducheng (fake Paris) in Zhejiang province began around 2007. Its central feature is 108-metre-tall (354-foot) replica of the Eiffel Tower and 31km2 (12 sq mi) of Parisian style architecture, fountains and landscaping. It opened in 2007, and can accommodate more than 10,000 residents. However, around 2,000 people are thought to currently live there, most of them working in a nearby French-themed theme park.

How to get there

The nearst city to fake paris is Hangzhou. If you take a high speed train from Shanghai to Hangzhou, it takes around 1.5-hours. Then when you’re in Hangzhou head to the Wulan Square metro station. Hop on bus 535 which leaves every 30-minutes and it drops you 100 meters from the ‘Eiffel Tower’ which is within eyesight. You can get the same bus in the opposite direction back to Hangzhou.

Fake London

As we are talking about fake cities we have to mention Thames town. This is a new ‘city’ in Songjiang district. Named after the River Thames that flows through London, and based on a ‘traditional British market town’. Thames Town has phone boxes, cobbled streets and a fish and chip shop. Since it’s only a metro ride away, its definitely worth checking out.

How to get there

You have a few options on how to get there. You can take a cab from downtown and it will cost you around RMB 70 - ask for Wencheng Lu and Sanxin Lu cross roads in Songjiang. Or you can ride the metro ALLLLL the way to the end of Line 9 to Sonjiang New City, which takes around an hour. From there take a 5-minute cab ride for around RMB 10 to Thames town.
