In fitness news, it seems that martial arts and other means of fighting are maintaining popularity in Shanghai, so without further ado, here are three new openings where you can get your fight on and break a sweat.

A brand new gym located in Gubei, Refuge has one simple philosophy: to get people to fall in love with martial arts. With a warm and spacious design, friendly staff and quality equipment, this community-focused center offers a lively and supportive environment for anyone looking to discover their inner hero through Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Mixed Martial Arts, Muay Thai and Boxing.
They even have a Brazilian jiu-jitsu-based kids program called “Little Heroes” that provides younger students with an introduction to meaningful exercises and discipline. Both adult and kid packages accommodate all levels and with a set of equipment. Pricing for adults starts at RMB 3,888 for six weeks, and RMB 4,588 for kids for one semester.

Perpendicular to the Adidas store, this new gym on West Nanjing Road offers Muay Thai, personal training, body building and kickboxing. You can do a free trial for your first visit. WeBox has a new gym opening in a lane right off of Donghu Road in June. This is a “revolutionary boxing concept designed to give a fantastic workout to all levels of fitness”. For their pre-sale, they’re offering a whopping 50% discount on all annual membership cards for the first 100 people who sign up. This means that the annual membership will only be RMB 4,688 a year, or RMB 5,188 if you want to add a Beginner’s Set which includes a bag, gloves, wraps, and water bottle. They’ll have 42 classes a week ranging from 30-minute HIIT classes to advanced boxing classes, all led by their certified trainers.
