Grand Opening of Bvlgari Hotel Shanghai

ShanghaiWOWeng 2018-11-29

Heavy rains have not stopped another luxurious hotel from opening up and Bvlgari Hotel Shanghai has finally opened its doors! Filled with curiosity, we went to have a look around.

Taking seven years to finish, the Bvlgari Hotel Shanghai is located in the bustling Yanhe Development Zone by Suzhou Creek and is filled with contemporary Italian design and furniture - all specially-custom made from Italy. There are also six iconic restaurants and bars, with the top floor bar offering a bird's eye view of the Bund, Huangpu River and the magnificent Pudong skyline. If that's not enough, the new hotel boasts the most luxurious presidential suite we've ever seen in Shanghai!

On June 20th 2018, Asia’s sixth and China’s second Bvlgari Hotel opened its doors. China is the only country in the world lucky enough to have two different styles of Bvlgari Hotel.

For the entire duration of our visit, we were blown away by the concept of “eternal circulation of resplendence.”

Full of charm and irresistible

Bvlgari Hotel Shanghai is located in the prosperous Yanhe Development Zone along the banks of Suzhou Creek. Be warned though, there’s an awful lot of traffic surrounding the area but it's worth the wait. The hotel itself covers an enormous area and when you see the Bvlgari logo, you’ll probably think you’re about to step into a gigantic jewelry store.

Even though the hotel has only just opened, you can expect nothing but the very best service. During our visit it was raining heavily but staff were on hand to help us with all of our needs.

The hotel’s interior was designed by the Italian architectural firm Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel and not only does it retain the essence of Italian architecture and style, but it also integrates the unique designs features of Shanghai. The hotel lobby is adorned with black walls and sofas to provide a premium sensation from the moment you step through the doors.

Through the great floor-to-ceiling windows, you can see the incredible Bvlgari garden outside. If you visit on a sunny day, it’s the perfect place to chill with a nice cold drink. When you look down at the round tables in the garden, you’ll see that these are strung together - almost like a beautiful piece of jewelry!

Something we found to be extra special here is the design of the front desk and concierge department; there’s a range of different materials and textures that make it look super cool. The perfect place for taking some beautiful photographs.

Heading further inside, we come to the lounge area. There’s an octagonal star-patterned screen in the center which matches the one in Bvlgari’s flagship store on Via dei Condotti in Rome. Hidden behind the screen is a more private area where you can borrow books for free 24/7.

Additionally, if you’ve been sitting in the lobby for a short while, the staff will happily bring you drinks. If you’re feeling a bit chilly, they’ll also provide you with blankets, along with a cute little packet of sweets! The service is truly top notch.

You can’t walk through the lobby and public areas without noticing the black and white celebrity photos everywhere. If you look closely, you’ll notice that in every one of these photographs the celebrities are wearing Bvlgari jewelry, proving just how well-loved this brand has been for so long.

Rooms so stunning you’ll never want to leave!

Amazing view of Shanghai through the bedroom’s oversized windows

There are only 82 bedrooms and suites in the hotel, but the average room is over 60m2 in size. The rooms are mostly black and white, with a blend of classic and contemporary Italian and Chinese culture.

All the furniture and lighting in the rooms are either custom-designed or personally selected by Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel, and tailored by world-renowned Italian brands making Bvlgari completely unique.

Today, we were lucky enough to visit the luxurious Bvlgari Suites. The suite is 400m2, and if that’s still too cramped for you, you can actually combine it with the suite next door to create a 570m2 three-bedroom suite.

The suites are made up of two floors with very high ceilings, giving a whole new meaning to the word “spacious”. In the living room, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the city.

This is easily the widest bed we’ve ever seen, and we can only imagine how soft it must be to sleep in. The classic four-poster bed is full of low-key, retro Chinese charm and a widescreen TV is hidden in a custom-designed cabinet too. How long will it take you to find it?!

There’s a classic Bvlgari blanket on the quilt to set off the furniture’s classical charm

The bathroom is completely open and transparent. You get a vanity for two alongside a countertop made of Carrara marble from Tuscany. The long mirrors have a distinctive design that breaks with the tradition of standard bathroom mirrors.

The bathtub is made from a single piece of rare green onyx from Pakistan, where you can watch a mirrored TV! Alternatively, relax in your own private steam or massage room. Personally, we think the best way to relax is by looking out at the fantastic scenery!

All rooms and suites are equipped with Bvlgari’s white tea series of bathroom products. You can only get these products in their hotels.

In the picture above, that weird-looking item is actually a bath towel. Again, it’s the biggest towel we’ve ever seen, and it costs over RMB 500! They’ll change it for you after every use.

6 iconic bars and restaurants await

Bvlgari Hotel Shanghai has six iconic bars and restaurants so, of course, when it comes to catering you can get pretty much everything you could ever want. You’ve got an Italian restaurant, a top-ranking Lixuan restaurant, a bar, another bar on the top floor, an Italian garden, and a Bvlgari chocolate store. You can try a different one every week!

Located on 47/F, Il Ristorante is headed by Michelin-starred chef Niko Romito, and offers a brand new style of Italian cuisine. The restaurant itself clearly cost a lot to create. The dining chairs and columns are wrapped in dark brown leather, creating a beautiful contrast with the light teal walls and floors.

The plates may look like nothing special, but they’re actually provided by the brand Bvlgari themselves. The comfortable leather chairs are also custom-made in Italy. Basically, you’re absolutely surrounded by luxury!

The corner of the restaurant offers an unrivalled view. Sitting here, we lost count of how many times we opened and closed the shutters. You won't be disappointed.

Also on 47/F is Il Bar, which is home to the iconic oval bar in Bvlgari hotels and resorts around the world. There’s plenty of drink choices and, despite only just opening, plenty of customers too.

There’s also a bar at the very top 48/F called La Terrazza. We’ve never seen Shanghai from this angle, where both the beautiful landscape on the banks of Suzhou Creek and Pujiang river can be seen! No doubt this will become a new hot spot for all you avid Instagrammers. It’s said that at night, the Bund panorama unfolds like something out of a movie and even the staff members couldn’t help stopping and admiring the beautiful view.

Every chocolate is as delicate as a precious gem. Treat your taste buds today and try a few more.

In the corner of the lobby on 1/F is Il Cioccolato, the first Bvlgari chocolate store in China. In addition to all the classic flavors, like rosemary lemon and fig and balsamic vinegar, you can also try one exclusive to Shanghai which is inspired by red dates and ginger from Xinjiang.

The hotel’s most anticipated restaurant is Lixuan Restaurant, which is located in the Shanghai General Chamber of Commerce Building. This place specializes in Cantonese and local dishes, carefully crafted by Chinese chef Mr. Fu (whose Macau restaurant was awarded a Michelin star!). Unfortunately, it’s not due to open until December, so you’ll have to curb your enthusiasm for a few more months.

The Shanghai Chamber of Commerce Building itself is a very significant historical building. Built in 1916, it has undergone renovation after renovation and is dominated by clear water and red brick walls, with stylized stone columns and a baroque design. You’ll feel like royalty walking through the magnificent entrance.

It screams western classicism, majorly contrasting with the trendy and modern Bvlgari Hotel.

The interior of the building is also adorned with pillars, and it’s retained all the old staircases from the past century - elements that resemble something out of an old movie. This is also where you’ll find the ballroom of Bvlgari Hotel. For reference, if you want to hold your wedding here, the most expensive table starts at RMB 38,888.

Shanghai’s most luxurious spa has arrived

When you first walk into the spa, the first thing you’ll see is the familiar oval reception desk

Shanghai’s ultra-luxurious spa is coming soon. It consists of eight treatment rooms, manicure services, stress-relieving jacuzzis, and so on. The spa center covers a whopping total area of 2,000m2, very close to a green park. They use a variety of European spa treatments and products. We love the fresh, quiet atmosphere here.

If you like any of the products you find in Bvlgari Hotel, you’re more than welcome to buy them and take them home too.

The pool is definitely another highlight. It’s 25m long, 8m deep, and paved with sparkling green mosaic tiles, recreating the former glory of the Roman Baths of Caracalla.

The interior integrates green space into its design, and it works beautifully. You’re surrounded by low-hanging veranda huts, so you might even forget you’re in Shanghai for a minute and imagine you’re on some tropical island instead!

Another feature of Bvlgari Hotel is a gym called Workshop Gymnasium. The boss is a well-known fitness instructor, who will develop a personal training course for every guest who wants one. He can help you improve fitness or weight loss through yoga, swimming, Pilates, boxing and more.
