Bellagio Hotel Opens World's Second Branch in Shanghai

ShanghaiWOWeng 2018-11-29

Bellagio Shanghai is the second hotel in the world succeeding its sister hotel, Bellagio Vegas in the United States, and officially opened this month to the public! We were there to see it all firsthand and we’re excited to share our experience with you.

A Red Carpet Affair

Bellagio went all in on opening night with their UltraViolet event that gathered more than 600 guests from all over the world over delicious food prepared by world-class chefs, stunning performances, and an impressive lineup of A-list celebrities.

Chinese actress Jiang Shuying hosted the event in her elegant floor-length gown with a heartwarming speech about her fond memories of Suzhou Creek and the Bund.

Famous Chinese filmmaker Lu Chuan also joined the festivities to show attendees a 3-minute-long promotional video that he helped produce for the new hotel.

And to bring it all together, American music composer and director Nathan Wang, who has previously worked on multiple soundtracks for Jackie Chan films, helped put together a melodious musical masterpiece to kick off the event.

Entertaining “Blue Man Group” Performance

Originally from New York, the world-renowned Blue Man Group stunned everyone with a very entertaining performance that included mime, juggling, percussion and dance elements to keep the crowd fully engaged.

The party also featured a Mondrian show which incorporated Chinese wushu elements into the artist’s famous yellow, red and blue abstract art pieces.

Mouthwatering Cuisine

Guests were spoiled with incredible handmade dishes throughout the entire event that was prepared by several Michelin star chefs, including Julian Serrano and Jun Kurogi. While Chef Serrano, owner of the LAGO by Julian Serrano restaurant, put together an impressive live cooking performance of his classic seafood paella, the owner of the super high-end Japanese restaurant Chef Kurogi showcased his skills to create jellyfish dishes.

The room was basically split between diners looking to have a taste of a Chinese chef’s intriguing dragon beard noodles and other diners lining up for LAGO’s mouthwatering dishes.

Other food items served included ice cream, Kurogi’s sushi, freshly-imported oysters and Peking duck.

After-Party on the Hotel’s Rooftop

The view from the new Bellagio Shanghai’s rooftop is quite breathtaking, standing 17 meters high with a 270-degree panoramic view overlooking Suzhou Creek, the hotel’s suites and the luxurious restaurants LAGO and Kurogi.

A popular venue that attracts all types of celebrities

During Mr Trump’s visit to Shanghai, CCTV used the hotel and LAGO restaurant’s outdoor terrace as background for their shoot given the mesmerizing views of Suzhou Creek and the Huangpu River from the new Bellagio.

Fashion magazine Vogue organized its photo shoot with actor Hu Ge and actress Tang Wei at the hotel, where Hu Ge wore a vintage velvet suit while standing in front of a window by a Chinese restaurant.

And last year, national diver Wu Minxia hosted her own wedding at the hotel (keep on reading to learn more about hosting weddings at this venue).

Chinese actress Zhang Zilin also once visited the LAGO restaurant to film a commercial for Giorgio Armani.

The mother and daughter duo had their photoshoot take place in the hotel lobby, on a terrace and in the presidential suite.

Other celebrities who have also visited the hotel include Jay Chou, Lang Lang, and Hongbo Jiang.

The world’s second Bellagio Hotel

Bellagio Shanghai is a marvelous blend of Italian, American and Chinese cultures located north of the Bund. Walls surrounding the entrance of the hotel were decorated with sapphire blue and white roses by a Canadian artist who took nearly four months to meticulously piece everything together.

Interior design was overseen by Wimberly Interiors of the WATG Group which adopted an art deco style for the hotel.

After walking up to (or taking the elevator to) the third floor, you will find a beautiful and customized LASVIT chandelier that adds enchantment to the overall guest experience.

Luxurious 400 m2 Presidential Suite

Each of the hotel’s 162 guest rooms has been decorated with care and comes with its unique access card. Unlike any other room, however, the Presidential Suite at the Bellagio Shanghai offers an impressive surface of 400 m2 and comes with a built-in family movie theater, a luxurious restaurant as well as a classic Italian royal bedroom and living room.

You can also find a walk-in wardrobe, a bathroom entirely made of marble, a 55-inch LED flatscreen TV, a high-end BOSE sound system and a Nespresso coffee machine.

The view from this suite is also quite memorable as it overlooks the Bund and the Lujiazui city skyline.

Presidential Suite Price: From RMB 88,000/night

The surface area of the hotel’s guest rooms are 70 m2 and also retain a classic Italian theme in their decor and colors. They are furnished with a customized Simmons bed, a 55-inch LED flatscreen TV and a BOSE sound system.

To appreciate a similar view to what you can get from the Presidential Suite, guests can go up to the hotel’s terrace as the sun sets on Shanghai’s unique skyline.

Unparalleled Italian cuisine

LAGO by Julian Serrano is located on the sixth floor. The hotel offers four dining options: the Jiafu Yi Hao Chinese restaurant, Cafe Bellagio, the hotel lobby’s bar, and LAGO restaurant. LAGO kicks off your experience with a beautiful entrance that leads to a night of great feast.

The restaurant is made up of three sections: an indoor dining area that follows a minimal and modern design, an attic with a futuristic look, and outdoor Mediterranean-style seating. At night, LAGO turns into a popular destination for many socialites.

Unexpectedly, the most interesting part of the restaurant is the dark humor that lies behind Gaudi’s architectural design which diners can experience as soon as they walk in from outside.

The octagonal tower is one of the hotel’s most notable features.

You can unleash your creativity and imagination all year round in the hotel’s main hall which is four stories high and surrounded by LED screens.

Be transported into the starry night with a relaxing yoga session under Van Gogh art pieces.

Rooftop secret garden: perfect getaway for city dwellers

We decided to venture around the hotel before the start the opening event and found a lovely secret garden on their rooftop terrace with a spectacular view of the Bund and Lujiazui.

It’s quite spacious with over 100 chairs available and is the perfect venue for events such as yoga classes, private parties or evening dates.

This brand new Bellagio Shanghai hotel is on its way to make serious waves in the luxury scene by redefining the entire guest experience in a city that never ceases to surprise us. There’s certainly a lot more to expect from this new hotel, and we look forward to seeing what comes next.
