Wet n' Wild Water Parks in and Around Shanghai

We're hitting a soaring 37 degrees celsius in Shanghai this week and if, like us, you're looking for ways to cool down, then keep reading. We've rounded up some of the best water parks in Shanghai and beyond for a much-needed cool-down.


Playa Maya Water Park

Following some revamps, the Playa Maya Water Park adopts a new theme of “Summer fun in 80 nights”. You can play on some of their major water features during the day and treat yourself to a summer beach party like never before come nightfall. With 30 performances throughout the day, enjoy a theatrical affair at the Playa Maya Water Park.


The park design is very modern with full-sized water slides, areas for children to play in, stone sculptures of dragons, and acres of high-quality stone flooring amongst many other features. Sea creatures, slides, and fairytale stories all come to life. The park even houses a 14,600sqm man-made wave pool with a Mayan god that dumps water on everyone. This heat is surely making us want to book tickets ASAP.

 

Getting There

 

Public Transport: Take Line 9 and alight at the Sheshan station to get on a shuttle bus to the waterpark.


Driving: Exit at the G60 (A8) Songjiang exit and drive north to Lin Meng Xi Lu, then west for 2km until you reach the water park carpark.


Tropical Storm or Dino Beach

This is one of the oldest water parks in town and it provides an opportunity to feel like a child again! Tropical Storm, or Dino Beach, has it all - a lazy river, a wave pool, numerous waterslides and kiddie pools for the kids! Located in the Songjiang district, this park will certainly keep your summer exciting while simultaneously keeping you nice and cool in Shanghai's sweltering summer heat. It houses over 30 thrilling rides for the adventure junkies.

 

Do note that the park is quite large, so we recommend you select your preferred rides wisely and go early!

 

Getting There

 

Public Transport: Take Line 1 and alight at the Xinzhuang Station before getting on either the 763 or the 173 bus to Xinzhen Lu and Gudai Lu.

 

Driving: Exit Gudai Lu from the A20 Outer Ring Expressway and turn right at the first exit on Xinzhen Lu.


Jinshan City Beach

Jinshan City Beach is no stranger to Shanghai residents and is opening its doors this summer from June 20th onwards, closing daily at 9pm. The beach offers a 10,000sqm leisure area within the western swimming complex with a huge artificial pool, mini leisure slides, cool entertainment facilities, and even more popular sporting events to get your blood pumping while staying cool in the heat - which can accommodate 300 to 400 people at the same time.

 

A rare sight in the city of Shanghai, the man-made beach can house more than 400 people and allows for swimming, eating fresh seafood, shopping, and more fun with park rides and activities

 

A carnival and live music shows will also be taking place throughout the summer. Grab some friends and don’t miss out on this summer music festival and beach volleyball competition! For those who prefer to hide from the sun, you can simply choose to unwind inside their beachside book store - the only one in town!


Getting There

 

Public Transport: Transferat Shanghai Nan Station to Jinshan Tie Lu before alighting at Jinshan Wei Zhan.

 

Driving: Go onto the A4 from Xinzhuang and exit the highway on Ting Wei Gong Lu before making a left turn to Ting Wei Gong Lu towards Jinshan Da Dao.


Bihai Jinsha

A popular hangout for Fengxian University students, Bihai Jinsha takes after the Jinshan City Beach. It’s glorified for the Hainan-imported golden sand and the watersports available to visitors. A surefire option for the best beach experience in Shanghai, Bihai Jinsha (or Blue Sea Golden Sand in English) stretches over 2.81 square kilometers excluding the beach and forest areas. Central District is a 0.8 square kilometer beach front swimming pool. The swimming area is about 18,000 square meters, which can accommodate 10,000 people swimming at the same time. The West District is a 1.5 square kilometer yacht area where tourists can participate in water rides such as motor boats and battery boats.

Public Transport: Take Line 1 to Xinzhuang Nan Guang Chang, then switch to the Xinhai line.

Shanghai Disney Resort

This list is definitely not complete without the mention of Shanghai Disney Resort. At any age, this never-before-seen world of wonders ignites excitement and dreams within. A fun experience filled with creativity, adventure and thrills for all guests and families!

 

The Pirates of the Caribbean attraction is just one of many we recommend you go enjoy in this sweltering heat, which the creators spent over seven years working on before launching this final version.

 

Go on a journey of a lifetime with Captain Jack Sparrow and have a peek into the beautiful seas and exciting adventures that lie ahead with stunning visuals. Dress the kids up in their favorite pirate costume or engage them in their own battles of the sea at the pirates exhibition.

 

Another must-go attraction is the roaring rapids, but do bring an extra set of clothing as you’re bound to get wet!

This park is set to open this September and is definitely going to make Disney run for its money. Only 30-minutes away from Disneyland, the 300,000 square meter space will house four interactive programs with marine animals, three entertainment theaters, six pavilions, a roller-coaster and what is deemed to be 'the world's longest Spinning Rapids Ride’. Just writing that makes us squeal!

 

The park authorities claim that this water park will have more marine animals than any other waterpark in the world. Sea World who? Ticket prices are rumored to be very reasonable in order to welcome approximately three million guests just this year. Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park is the latest in a long line of large-scale marine life destinations brought to life by Legacy | GGE and opens on September 28th. See you there?


Suzhou Amusement Land

About two hours via car, Suzhou Amusement Land is definitely worth the commute! Over 80,000sqm in space, the park houses a lazy river, towering water slides, octopus slides and more! After soaking in the sun and plunging down each and every waterslide, visitors can head down to the resort hotel and treat themselves with a visit to their beautiful spa. Get a dead skin removal treatment, relax in various flower baths, or choose any of the other activities they have to offer. This is a perfect getaway for people of all ages and certainly a go-to this summer.

Driving: Exit the Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway and drive on Mayun Lu, then on Changjiang Lu before reaching the water park.

 

Nanjing Shuimofang

Located within Nanjing Tangshan, Happy Shuimofang is said to be one of the most modern and large-scale water parks in Asia. The park is able to house up to 30,000 patrons and is divided into six main categories – surfing, beach,slides, children attractions, wave pool and last but not least, a spa!

 

The park has a man-made pool that produces 3-meter-high waves: fit for surfing in addition to their 10,000sqm natural beach.

 

Getting There

 

Driving: Exit the Shanghai-Nanjing Tangshan Expressway and drive for 3km before reaching your destination.
