Newly Opened Currify x Taoker is Dosa Heaven

Anabela ShanghaiWOWeng 2018-11-30

Shanghai’s F&B scene never fails to surprise me. From creative culinary pieces of art to a taste of home, there is always something for everyone. And if you are a fan of Indian cuisine, you will be happy to hear that you can grab tasty bites at the newly opened Currify x Taoker on Taixing Lu.

Their menu is comprehensive, with assorted curries (hence the name) and also has flavorful side bites that taste identical to what you would get if you'd just stepped into the colorful streets of India. What's more, if you have a special affinity for dosa, you have found your special slice of heaven.

Masala Dosa

What exactly is dosa? Think of it as an Indian-style “bing” that is also crispy but fluffier. Originally hailing from southern India, it’s served with sambar and chutney. At Currify x Taoker, they have plain (RMB 35) or masala dosa (RMB 38) which has a light potato stuffing served with coconut chutney, tomato red chili chutney and sambar. One huge plus for this dish is that it’s entirely vegan.

Two other dishes that are making their debut in the Shanghai scene are the Chole Bhature and Puri Bhaji.

Chole Bhature

Chole Bhature (RMB 42) originally comes from the Punjab region of India and is a combination of chana masala (spicy white chickpeas) and bhatura, a fried bread made from maida flour (soft wheat).

Puri Bhaji

Puri Bhaji (RMB 42) is made of puri (deep-fried rounds of flour) and aloo (potato) bhaji (a spiced potato dish which may be dry or curried). It is a traditional breakfast dish in northern India.

Tandoori Chicken Pizza

If traditional bites are not your scene, you can also try the Tandoori Chicken Pizza (RMB 42). The flavor is in the crust, which is made from Naan and abundantly-topped with chicken pieces that provide a kick of flavor in each bite.

If you're looking for a cooling drink, come by for a lassi (RMB 28) The pineapple and mango flavors will give your day a little perk, but there are other flavors you can choose from that range from buttermilk and banana to salt and regular sweet.

If you're in the neighborhood, this is definitely worth a visit. The portions are not overwhelming and are great for group visits. I would recommend this place for a casual night out before heading to Zhang Yuan for a round of drinks. Lunchtime is busy, but there are enough seats to go around.
