The Egg House Exhibition Cracks in Shanghai
Originally from New York, the popularity of this egg-themed exhibition exploded across the city and quickly captured the curious attention of various big media networks including ABC, NBC, and The New York Times as well as other international channels like CCTV. It became a favorite among celebrities and influencers like Bethenny Frankel from ‘Real Housewives of New York City’, Guns N’ Roses drummer Frank Ferrer, Victoria’s Secret Angels, Brazilian model Gizele Oliveira and American model Abigail Ratchford.
Needless to say, the “Egg House” has been a success.
The team behind it is made up of several New Yorkers who decided to incorporate all the different aspects and items from our daily lives that are influenced by the importance of eggs into an egg-themed exhibition.
But this isn’t just any food-inspired exhibition. Instead, it tells the story of its inspirational hero named Ellis, a giant egg who has hopes and dreams for a better future like the rest of us from his apartment space in the Lower East Side of Manhattan dubbed the Egg House.
And now, Ellis is embarking on a new journey as the exhibition is planning a visit to Shanghai! The pop-up museum will also be serving egg-based dishes to satisfy visitors’ cravings after a stroll around the space.
Save yourself a flight to New York and take your love for eggs to The Egg House in Shanghai!
Highlights from The Egg House
Ellis the egg is leaving the comfort of his New York apartment to come visit us in Shanghai, and he has hired his own team of professionals to design the entire space. How much of one’s life can you fit into an exhibition? Between yellow rental cars, a refrigerator, the New York City subway and, yes, an airport, well… quite a lot it seems.
This exhibition aspires to tell the story of Ellis’ travels from the Big Apple to the East.
The Egg Taxi
Start where every travel plan starts: watch Ellis embark on his journey in an iconic NYC yellow cab on his way to the airport.
The Dream Space
Ellis then boards his flight as he begins to dream of his destination; a modern city with immense potential, neon lights, golden elements and pink clouds.
The Egg Fridge
Once Ellis gets off the subway in his new city, the first place he stops by is, as one might expect from a traveling egg, a fridge. This large installation is packed with eggs, milk boxes, bagels along with other iconic foodie treats from New York.
The Large Egg House
Interestingly, the Egg House uses another way to store its eggs - the egg carton - as a new location for yet another dreamy destination.
Designed with a color scheme that blends blue and yellow, a large bed can be found at the center of this installation which visitors are welcome to test out and jump on if desired.
The Art Gallery and Living Room
Ellis’ living room is an open space with a bright interior where the artwork he collects hangs for visitors to look at and appreciate. The empty frames represent his longing desire for museum-goers to pay him a visit.
Standing Bedroom
Immerse yourself in Ellis’ life by entering his eccentric bedroom where you will find a large sunny side up egg on his bed that serves as a blanket.
Caviar Swimming Pool
Some of the facilities around the Egg House may easily lead visitors to believe that Ellis lives a rather swanky lifestyle, like his caviar pool decorated with utensils and other food items where you can cool off in the summer.
The Egg Roll Bathroom
Across the pool stands Ellis’ blue bathroom that spells out “summer” and perfectly matches the vibes of the season.
At the center of the bathroom is a toilet roll with a pink egg imprinted on it to further emphasize the importance of eggs in this exhibition.
Magical Forest
As if the caviar pool wasn’t swanky enough, visitors can explore more of Ellis’ lifestyle by walking out onto his private garden of fluffy egg clouds that counts more than 30 trees with egg prints all around.
Hidden in the forests is Ellis secret spot – the eggplant swing.
Find Ellis the Egg
The exhibition successfully engages with its audience with interactive activities in every section dubbed “Find Ellis the Egg” to keep visitors entertained throughout their exploration.
End your visit with some egg-themed souvenirs and other collectables to help bring fond memories of this place back!
Bring your friends along for an egg-squisite experience, perhaps on a Friday, and have an egg-cellent time at the Egg House! And who knows, you might just bump into a few celebrities while you're at it.
