Coming in just days after the news of Starbucks' plans to partner with Alibaba-owned food delivery platform Ele.me, Luckin Coffee announced during its press event on August 1st that they would be expanding its business scope to include light meals and snacks for customers to order. What’s more, food offered would be priced RMB 1-5 lower than what you would usually find.

Luckin officially launched in January and, according to news sources, has since then has opened more than 809 outlets in 13 Chinese cities thanks to a “growth plan based on cheap delivery, online ordering, big discounts and premium pay for its staff”.

Following this, Luckin has also said that from today until December 31st all of their stores around the country would offer a 50% discount – not only for delivery but for pick-up of food items as well – certainly an enticing incentive for any new or returning customer.

Right now, their food menu consists of items like scones, cakes, wraps and sandwiches in a range of different flavors and, as mentioned during their press event, have dramatically reduced prices.

A Cranberry Scone, usually RMB 15 will currently cost you RMB 7.5. A Hawaiian Pineapple and Ham Wrap usually at RMB 13 is now RMB 6.5 (what a steal!) and their Tiramisu Cake, usually at RMB 25 is currently RMB 12.5. No matter how you look at it, Luckin Coffee are certainly turning up the heat in this battle for king of caffeine in China.
