Three Favorite Haunts with Hot New Venues
This month has been awash with new restaurants and bars opening their doors, which is amazing news for all Shanghai foodies. There are also some awesome established establishments that have expanded and opened up in new locations. This means we have even more opportunity to get some of our long time favorite dishes down our gullets!
Pierogi Ladies
The amazing Pierogi Ladies and their Polish treats have been cooking up a storm for years. From selling on Kate and Kimi, running pop-ups and whipping up delights at different markets, they have finally decided to open a restaurant on Jiazhou Lu and it does not disappoint.
Hidden down a lane, it is a little tricky to find, but be bold and venture on because you’re in store for some delights.
The restaurant is packed full of whimsy charm with a café style feel. They served up hot home-cooked food that is made in house. Whilst pierogi are obviously going to be the main dish of choice, be bold and venture in for some of their awesome soups and pickles.
Tomato and coconut soup with a side of fresh bread RMB 35
They offer a great lunch set at RMB 68 which includes a soup served with fresh bread, or a salad of the day and eight pierogi of your choice. Be-warned they are busy at lunch time, but it is the perfect spot to take a break from the working week and just chill with a cup of fruit tea and a plate of home cooking.
12 vegetarian pierogis, mixed plate RMB 84
The pierogi are obviously the main event and they have a HUGE variety of flavors including vegetarian and meat options; they will regularly introduce specials and keep the menu interesting. If you can eat your way through every option I will be impressed. They are deceptively filling.
Mixture of vodka shots infused in house RMB 30 per shot.
They also have an impressive range of vodkas, which is to be expected in a Polish restaurant. They made their own infused vodkas in-house that range from delicious to bizarre, but are all worth a try. We slightly over indulged before we took the photographs so forgive us for the blurriness. After carefully sampling every option available, we decided the best was the ‘Mad Dog’ shot, made with raspberry and syrup and Tabasco. Be bold and work your way down the list.

HOMESLICE PIZZA
Don’t we all just LOVE HomeSlice? Based on a New York pizzeria it’s the perfect place to grab a bite on a busy day (or during the drunken wee hours of the morning). Their Found 158 location is a beacon to many a drunk person and we are pleased to announce they have a new venue near Zhongshan park.
Whilst this is excellent news for all dwellers of Changning district, it’s also good news for everyone in Jing An as this has increased their delivery radius by loooads. This means more pizza for you and your mates on a Friday night!

All the classic pizzas are on the menu, including a few special treats like the Costco double cheese pizza RMB 35 a slice and my personal favorite, the Kung Pao Chicken pizza RMB 30 a slice. This amazing pizza is packed with flavors, topped with crispy red chilli peppers, succulent chunks of chicken and crunchy peanuts. Keep your eyes peeled for upcoming delights like their Thai Style Slice.

Little Catch
After Little Catch had to close their Wulumuqi Zhong Lu location, we have all been waiting with bated breath to see what their next move was going to be.
They have ventured to the Jing An hotspot on Yanping Lu where they are keeping all of the best bits of their menu and adding some hot new additions like toasty soups. Keep an eye out!
Dynamite Poke RMB 60
They are going to be serving up their classic poke bowls. As always you can order a premade bowl or you can construct your own with heaps of different topping options including salmon, tuna and octopus. And you can select your base with a variety of grains, rice and salads available.
Biggi bagel RMB 60
They also have awesome bagel options including my favorite the ‘Biggi’ which is packed full of mackerel smoked in-house, cucumber, fresh tomatoes and whole grain mustard. They make an awesome breakfast-to-go or a great quick and easy lunch at your desk.
