Tim Hortons Arrives in Shanghai on February 26th!

ShanghaiWOWeng 2019-04-05

A few months back, we reported that Tim Hortons was set to make its way over to China and now it seems the day has finally arrived - well, almost! Announced to be opening on February 26th, we're just under two weeks away from seeing them open their doors as they look to join big brands such as Shake Shack and LeTAO who also recently arrived in the city.

History

It all started with a donut and a dream. Back in 1964, Tim Horton - who was a National Hockey League Legend - opened the first store in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. They were serving coffee and donuts for only 10 cents each, the apple fritter and the Dutchie being among the original donuts offered.

Then in 1967, Tim Horton became acquainted with Ron Joyce, the first franchisee, and they became full partners. From there, the rest is history.

Now, approximately 15% of all Canadians visit Tim Hortons - that's suggested as being around 5.3 million customers a day and every year they serve more than 2 billion cups of coffee. As of 2014, Tim Hortons had 4,590 restaurants systemwide: 3,665 in Canada, 869 in the United States and 56 in the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Food & Drink

Tim Hortons is one of the largest publicly-traded restaurant chains in North America based on market capitalization and the largest in Canada.

Tim Hortons is a fast-food chain that appeals to wide number of diners with a menu that includes premium coffee, espresso-based hot and cold specialty drinks (including lattes, cappuccinos and espresso shots), specialty teas and fruit smoothies, fresh baked goods - including their trademark donuts - grilled Panini and classic sandwiches, wraps, soups, prepared foods and more. So what can we hope to see in the Shanghai location?

Original Brewed and the Double Double

Original Brewed and the Double-Double are some of the Canadian favorites, all made from a medium roast blend for balance, with the Double-Double boasting double (duh) the cream and sugar than usual.

Sausage Egg & Cheese (Biscuit / Muffin) + Hashbrown

We love a good hashbrown, and the ones at Tim Hortons are said to be warm, satisfying and a delicious complement to any breakfast! Will they beat our usual indulgences from McDonald's? Who knows, but we're sure going to try these crispy, golden delights.

These usually appear with breakfast bites like the Sausage, Egg and Cheese biscuit / muffin - a combination of pork sausage patty, seasoned egg omelet and sliced cheddar cheese on your choice of either an English Muffin or Homestyle Biscuit.

Timbits

From chocolate and strawberry-filled to Bday cake timbits, we're definitely keen to see these moreish little donut bites hit Shanghai. They're bite-sized morsels of their traditional donuts.

Steak & Cheese Panini

In locations abroad, Tim Hortons re-introduced their Steak and Cheese Panini, Chipotle Steak and Cheese Panini as well as a Grilled Steak and Egg Breakfast Sandwich. Made fresh to order and grilled to hot, cheesy goodness, they really solidified their presence and satisfied steak lover's cravings.

Donuts

While all of their traditional donuts are going to be on our to-eat list, there's no way we're going to be missing out on trying one of their first original donuts: the apple fritter! An apple fritter donut laced with cinnamon and covered in a sugary glaze...yum.

For all this and more, prices look set to be as follows:
